Vassel states

yes.
if someone likes or fears you then you can vassal them which means they ed you res and you control there land mass and population.

quote: * Vassal states is like an "asymmetric alliance." Basically, one civilization serves as the master in the relationship and collects tribute from the weaker, vassal nation. The vassal nation is automatically at war with any of the master nation's enemies. Most importantly, the vassal's land counts as the master's land for domination purposes. You can get a nation to be your vassal if you can get them to "trust you enough to protect them or if they're scared enough of your power."

Basically you're in the service of you're master (the bigger empire). He is really just controlling you without actually conquering you. He spares your empire so he can make his own even greater.

Just think of how Rome siezed power of many empires like the Greeks, Egyptians, etc.

Sounds a lot like the vassal nation is the master's puppet.

I should add: good concept. Dangerous, though. Hope it works out ok. Also hope theres a way to turn it off if it doesn't work out right.

Is this a new feature or just only a name change to something
already in the main game?
I played a lot of team games lately and the AI_partner already
act as a puppet.

If it was the same as a permanent alliance, it'd be a permanent alliance. It's not, so it's not. For further details and conjecture, please read posts 2 through 7 of this thread.

I didn't know "vassal" was a verb...

If vassal states are like permanent alliances, then the chance of me ever having one is zero :)

Just a thought: Does anyone know/think that Vassal State will be an option in the Diplomacy menu and if so, could it cause if war if you choose not be become or demand Vassal State with another Civ?

I'm curious about how wonders will work...for example, if another Civ builds the Pyramids, and you 'acquire' them as a Vassal State, do you get the benefits of the Pyramids? Similar to a 'teammate' in team games?

Similar question on resources...if a Vassal State has a resource that you don't, do you gain access to that resource? Or is a trade still necessary?

Ah, well. I suppose we'll have to wait until the expansion pack to find out...

well all of the vassals land is the masters, so i assume the land includes the cities and resources. So yes perhaps so.

also.. If you goto iran and say "YOU WILL NOW LISTEN TO US!" they are going to say no and start fighting u. so yes it is war...

im stillwaiting on civilwar

Yes it will be in the Diplomacy window. A screenshot posted awhile back showed it appearing in the main trade window, along with Open Borders. I don't know about the war part, but my guess is that it will lead to war if you don't agree. It seems rather logical that it would.

Vassal States appear to be a the lazy man's dominatinon tactic. You basically attack a civ until it's weak enough to agree to the Vassal State option, then you can turn your army elsewhere and focus on putting the rest of the world under your bondage. It'd be especially helpful for intercontinental empires, so that you wouldn't have to cross the ocean to capture their last ice colony.

How do you get vassal states? I didn't even know you could do that!

I do know we have a civic called "vassalage" though. I use it when I'm at war!

Vassal states are a new feature in the forthcoming Warlords Expansion.

Unfortunately we don't know much yet, certainly not this level of detail.
