What is the most universal, uncompressed video format?

The way .wav is uncompressed sound where as .mp3 is compressed sound

or .bmp is an uncompressed image where as .jpeg is compressed.'

I've read through wikipedia articles and searched google on video formats and codecs and stuff and it all seems very confusing to me. Video files that end in .avi or .mkv have the best image and sound quality to me, however I am wondering what I should be looking for if I want the best quality possible.

 uncompressed video is ridiculously huge in the tune of several gigabytes for a short length of video. If your still a glutton for punishment then most uncompressed video files that i'm aware of are avi's. Generally compression doesn't decrease the quality in any noticeable amount.

so basically you are saying in the world of video compression, there is not a universally accepted "best"?

DivX is probably the most popular, but I don't know that it's necessarily "the best".

No idea but what would you do with a video file with a transfer rate of over 250Mb/s?
