Video issues

I'm having a couple annoying problems with my video...

1. My pirate character is often rendered as a wood texture or transparent texture, whenever I'm seeing the governor, in the tavern, dancing.

2. The game will shut down and kick me back into Windows XP Home with no explanation or warning. It happens at sea and when I'm meeting with the governor.

3. The Spanish and English governors are rendered as transparent or silver/brown textures too.

Anyone else?

I'm on a Fujitsu laptop, with an Intel 82830M chip, DirectX 9.0c, enough RAM and GBs to run the program smoothly. Just these small, but annoying graphics problems.

Thanks!!

hi quasimodo, I experience the same with my Acer TravelMate 291 LMi.

It has an Intel i855GM chip, and your problem is - as mine - that you card has no hardware T&L. Still, it should be possible to fix this issue, but this is mainly up to Intel to release proper drivers.

So far there is NO solution to this problem. You will have a brown and strange textured pirate. Besides that, it will run fine... yea, it is annoying. Other users reported the same problem, but it is mostly - and without any solution so far - a problem of Intels graphics cards.

Besides that, dancing on a laptop sucks...

your desktop crash can be solved: Simply set all details to MAX, I experienced crashes with lower detail in the same situations.

this is 3D game not 2D. Complain to intel, they are responsible for selling that crappy chipset with integrated graphics.

Well said... please do not give any poster who asks a serious question such a "clever" response...

After my mail (send on 25 December, xMas) on 27 December Atari Rech9 answer:

"Unfortunately, your video card does not support Hardware T&L (Transform and Lighting), which is required by the title. *You will have to purchase and
replace your video card with one that meets the requirements listed on the
bottom of the box."

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Hi-End Notebook with Intel 82852/82855 Chipset ... I'm still find a solution ...

But ... with all video graphics options OFF the game seem to work, with strange visal effect on pirate character.

Support for Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L)

Intel® graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run.

This applies to:

Intel® 82810 Graphics Controller
Intel® 82815 Graphics Controller
Intel® 82830M Graphics Controller
Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller

Intel® 82852/82855 Graphics Controller Family
Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller
Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family

Hardware Transform & Lighting (T&L) definition:

Two separate engines on the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) that provide for a powerful, balanced PC platform and enable extremely high polygon count scenes.

Transform performance determines how complex objects can be and how many can appear in a scene without sacrificing frame rate. Lighting techniques add to a scene's realism by changing the appearance of objects based on light sources.

Some other notes about video cards: T&L video cards started shipping around 3 years ago, so if you got your computer in the last couple of years you should check and see if you have a T&L card.

It's always a good idea to make sure you have the most current drivers for your video cards. The manufacturers usually have the video drivers on their sites for you to download. Visit the nVidia site or the ATI for the latest drivers for those video cards.

I think: The new Pirates don't need a extreme 3D engine, and Intel, SIS and other Chipset are extremly diffuse ... this ia a clear market-modding for videocard vendor ...

The list, not complete, of unsupported card and chipset now I think are:

3DFX Voodoo series of cards
Kyro
Kyro II
Nvidia TNT series
ATI Rage series (and earlier cards)
SiS Graphics Chips/Cards
Intel Graphics Chips/Cards
Matrox 450 and Matrox 550 (and earlier card)

SID, help Us ... we don't want change our pc's every time You make a new game ...
