On certain video files, my computer will not play them. It comes up with a message box saying "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help". Of course, the web help is useless, and it's weird because these files used to work, but now do not.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Maybe your Windows Media Player is no longer compatible with that certain video?

Or maybe the video is corrupt?

Could several videos just become corrupt for no reason? Why would WMP suddenly become incompatible?

So what can I try to rectify this?

You might want to get a codec for that particular media file in order for WMP to play it.

Try downloading VLC media player. It's free and plays alot of what you throw at it. If the files are indeed corrupt they won't play on that either. If they do, then you know it's a problem with WMP.

That seems to work with all my files. Thank you very much.

Ignore post.
