I really love the ethnic units mods and i feel they bring a huge amount too the immersiveness of the experience.

The existing Ethnic Units mods work quite well however they don't work with the new units that are brought in with Vox Populi. For example all spear-men will have unique ethnic skins, however all civ's skirmishers look like mongolian horse archers.

I was wondering if there is a vox populi version anywhere that i might not have found yet.

I am loving the gameplay of this mod though. Im having an amazing time looking through all the new features, admiring the balance and being impressed by the AI. It's a masterpiece.

I don't think anyone made a VP version of Ethnic Units.

Is it still necessary to delete the WWI infantry from Ethnic Units to make it work with VP? It used to cause crashes. Actually now that I know more about modding, just renaming it should solve it too.

Don't you get memory overflows with Ethnic Units late game? It is a very memory-heavy mod.

The one i'm using is 'Ethnic Diversity - Steam version' by Gedemon. It works 80% well, as mentioned it is just the new unit's that don't have ethnic skins

I haven't noticed any problems. I played through a whole game as Korea and didn't crash or notice any significant late game slow downs. But i'm not sure how to check entirely if there was memory overflows

I actually made my own version of the said mod, changing almost EVERY SINGLE MODEL according to its matched culture.

Oh, I did not know that one, I knew Ethnic Units and R.E.D. The memory overflows are easy to spot - the game will crash to desktop :-) (or get stuck or you will start getting graphic glitches)

Are the horses also ethnic? Just curious.

Thinking about something...

A full Units/reskin for the all 43 civs weighs a ton. There is no doubt about it.

A smart compromise should be:
An individual ' ethnic reskin units mod' for each civs.
Then, we load the exact number and ethnic mod needed for the civs picked in the setup. (No random)

I'm not sure about the final result, but it worths to dig in it I believe.

That would be really smart if it is possible. It would only have to load 12 reskins at most using standard settings. Defiantly a smaller memory load than 43

I have long thought that most civ players don't care about such aesthetics
RED is one of the most popular mod.

Perfect sql/lua/c++ code is essential, but from a user's point of view, aesthetics is everything.

EDIT: I know, a lot of coders do not believe that :shake:

@Asterix Rage , good thinking!

I suppose this cannot be done automatically/programmatically, as the graphics assets are to be loaded are defined in the modinfo file without any conditional formatting, right?

Still, if you preselect the civs to be used in the advanced setup and then manually include / exclude folders for the selected civs, it could work nicely without too much manual labor.

That exactly what I'm thinking ...better said :)

You could set up a very simple random civ selector to randomly select your opponents outside the game, there's some websites that offer this i think. And then manually put the ones that come up into the game. You would still know every civ in the game before you enter but it would keep some randomness in terms of who you are facing in game.

I will contact the original author and release it very soon.

That's why I haven't been that eager to release this to the public.

I actually have been interested in it very much and tried finding one for VP.
But notice that quite a number of people don't use it for memory issue so I decided to stop searching and just use regular RED.

BUT I would love to try such an amazing aesthetic mod created for VP :)

I always like guessing my opponent civs before encountering them, mostly by religion choices.

I also had an issue at first, you know, textures going crazy because of memory shortage.
However, I set the graphics settings to all medium (also untick the texture decode thing), and it's ceased to happen.

yea that used to be the case for me as well especially when I'm on bigger maps.
Now it tend to set lower graphic settings to reduce it or play on smaller maps.

Hope to be able to enjoy your aesthetic mod soon as to me this is like ethinic diversity, where they are must-have mods to immerse myself further.

Would you guys provide links to these mods with the recommended graphics settings? I will add it to the mods compatibility thread.
Be aware that any RED or RED-like mods are always heavy
Must be manipulated with cautions.

I'm supporting any initiatives that will allow RED in VP anyway
