i looked in the editor to find the option that make walls expire when city is bigger than 6...
to my suprise, there is no option...
i thought that this is because all biuldings that improve defence will expire...

BUT!!! civil defence is exactly the same as the wall but doesn't expire...

why is this and what option in the editor does this come under?!?!

cities size 1-6 have no civil defence.
Cities size7-12 have a 50% bonus from civil defence.
Cities size 13+ have a 100% bonus from civil defence.

Only in cities smaller than size 6, which have no civil defence, a 50% bonus can be achieved with walls. When civil defence is in effect, walls no longer help the city.

This is probably done for gameplay reasons as a city with both civil defence and the effect of walls added together would become almost impossible to conquer.

Also is it somewhat realistic, city walls were build in the past when cities were not very big. Nowadays, in some cities, you can still see the walls in the centre of the city. The city has grown outside the borders of the walls and thus loses its defence bonus.

I don't know anything about the editor though.

Giving an improvement a bombard defense, iirc, is what causes it to disapear.

yes as mentioned above but u can also do this in the ditor for example to set walls to become obselete also with metallurgy like the great wall...... that is also something u can do with the ditor regarding walls

actually, i think you guys are misreading it's question, i believe it's actually a known bug that walls don't exprire (i know this wasn't fixed in [ptw] not sure about [c3c] )

No, he is wondering why Walls expire when I city reaches the second size, but Civil Defenses don't. The answer is because of bombard defense

yes i'm aware of what he was asking my post wasn't directed at you as much as fuad and wacken, but i don't think you're right, i think i'm right, your idea makes no sense :p

thanks louisxxiv
i also noticed from the screenies that civil defence require maintenance whereas walls don't... would that also affect it?

I don't have a clue, but, from what I've been told, the answer is no. ;)
