Want to improve the ability of AI to handle combat? What about just making Siege Units Stackable?

I've now played enough games to come across enough situations where the AI would have actually posed a serious threat if it weren't so incompetent in its handling of Siege Units.

I think such a change might be worth pursuing. I'm not very hopeful of an AI overhaul, but I would be thankful if Firaxis gave us what we want - a more competent AI - even if through different means.

Being able to treat Siege units in a similar manner as Support Units would favour the AI more than the human player. The Human player already knows how to competently protect its Siege Units.

Not only would the AI manage to more efficiently keep Siege Units from harm but it would clear space for other units.

Just a thought.

Well, siege units would have to be weakened considerably. As-is, siege units are very easily able to bring ruin to a city. They (even just one) would just sit in strong units' tiles and bomb cities into oblivion tout de suite. But I'm fine with that. Putting a city under siege (by surrounding it) is, rather ironically, hardly necessary with siege units as they are. Smashing a city in two shots is the opposite of what a siege is.

Yes, I agree. I don't think increasing production cost is the right solution, so it would have to be balanced by making them weaker, which I'm fine with. It also makes it harder for the Human Player to "snipe-capture" enemy cities, giving more time for the AI's units to come to the rescue. The AI stands the most to gain by such changes.
