War and diplomacy problem

I play in the regent level in the normal civlisation 2. I'm in war since a long time with the six other civilisation. They are always asking me to give them money or technologies. 2 or 3 cilisations only ask 50 or 100 gold. I have 3, 4 or 5 important technologies that they don't have and they have 7,8,9 imporrtant technologies that I don't have. I'm in 1825 in fundamentalism with 2500 gold.
I'm trying to get Barcelone to get the UNO to end the war and trade technologies. I still want to build the spaceship without problem and have good military and economics technologies.
I want to know if I should pay a little bit of gold or try other tactic.

Regent level is civ3.
But we shall forgive you :) .

Now about your game:
If several AI civs are ahead of you techwise and also ask for tribute, the best you can do is switch to Communism, build a lot of vet spies and steal those techs.
If you stay behind in the research race, you are going to lose the space race (and Fundamentalism is not the right government for speedy research).
Next game: build a SSC and develop trade.

I'm in 1840. I didn't change to communism but i'm preparing to steal technologies. I paid 50 gold to the Greece and 100 to France. It didn't give a lot. The war with them end during 3, 4 or 5 turn. I didn't get a peace treaty and doesn't trade technologies.
The other civilisation need at least 350 gold or miniaturization. It could be 950 gold and I don't trust them. Also for next time I may change to communism but now I think that it's too late. Steal technologies, get UNO or have a military success is still my last chance. I don't know what other thing to do. Do you speak french ?

Isn't scloopy older? (Or did I translate it wrong?)

I like trying to translate your french text la fayette, but I'm not very good at it.:)

I didn't get the second line though?

Eh bien moi aussi je parle français. Bref je parle un peu l'anglais(j'étudie en extra anglais). Ça fait environ 6 ans que j'ai le jeu mais 2 ans que je joue correctement.
(I speak french. I speak a little bit English and I study extra English. I got this game for 6 years but it's for 2 years that I play correctly)

1) I don't think she is (and my French education forbids me to discuss the age of a lady: a lady is 20+ until she leaves us for good :) ).

2) Both lines are an extract from a famous play written by Corneille named "Le Cid" (who is in fact a Spanish hero named 'El Cid Campeador').
The second line reads like this: "Did I live that long only to experience such an infamous deed ?"

Gotcha.:)

I do think it's a stupid act of courtesy though. We all know everybody grows older for every year, and I'm pretty sure that both men and women grow old at the same rate.;)

Ah, but it is an act of courtesy well appreciated by many a lady. It is sometimes worth doing things that we may deem pointless but that cheer others.

I've never met scloopy, and doubt I ever shall, but I have no doubt that if I did I would find that she looks much to young to be the grandmother she claims to be. (Of course, that is perfectly understandable, because we all know of the restorative and rejuvenating effects of playing CivII. Despite the fact that I've led my own civilization since 4000 b.c., I hardly look a day over 37, or is it 38?)

Not to get too picky or anything, but if I remember my science classes correctly, women generally look older than men sooner, but we catch up not too long after... Please don't chew me out too much if I screwed up on that. :-)

If you want to stop a war, capture a city. With 2500 gold, you should be able to bribe a city.

Yeah, geofelt, when you are at war with the AI/S, you only need to capture one of its cities, and they come begging for peace, just to declare war a few turns later on. That's something I hate about the Civ2 AI/S. It refuses to have long drawn-out wars. You have to keep them going for them.

AI/S = Artificial Intelligence/Stupidity; we all know how stupid the Civ2 AI is, right?

If you insist on being in a Fundamentalist government, then take advantage of what it does. You should be able to field a large army, and you should be able to rush that army along with decent cash coming in. With that, also make dips or spies and steal what techs you want. Alternately, bribe cities and you can get the city, ALL that is inside it as far as troops, most if not all improvements, and if the civ has a tech that you do not you will be able to get one of those as well.

If you do not have Mike's Chapel in one of your own cities, find where it is and find a way to take that city forthwith. It will give you a cathedral in every city, and under a Fundy government this will provide you with a great deal of extra funds coming in.

Fundy is the warmonger government as it allows you to field a large force without any issues dealing with happieness or shield support. Again, go after what techs you can that you do not have. You can still put freights out there as well, and deliver enough and you can still develop your own science at a very good rate. Make a beeline to robotics and field howitzers all over the place and you will soon be ruling the world with might.

Should you want to be the first with a spaceship, then you need a more tech-friendly governement such as Democracy. Under prince (about regent, no?) level it should not damage your happiness too much (though you may need to add some luxuries). Again, Mike's Chapel (along with Bach's Cathedral) are key wonders here.

Hope that helps.
