My latest map - year 2000 AD. See attached file: "Warlord game 05 - Babylon 2000 AD.jpg".
The Russians have been pressing my west coast as I started to build up my irrigation. The cities on the east then started supplying the cities on the west with troops, and the much needed settlers. This has been a valuable lesson - the key word is
balance! You have to strike a balance between city sites, and irrigation. I, unintentionally, ignored irrigation wanting a huge population. While that has paid off, my income is ~50 gpt, my cities have remained at size ~5 and defenses have been just ok. But they have been poor enough for the lower tech Russians to keep threatening me.
I also started building many Battleships to protect my west coast. It is working so well. I distribute them along the coast and put them all on Sentry. Once the ships spot an enemy ship (Russians so far, no French) I am alerted and sink them 2, 3, and 4 units at a time. This must be costing the Russians, but they persist on attacking me... I already developed Atom Energy so with nukes maybe they will listen to my peace offering: "Give me gold or be destroyed - your choice."
Future plans:
- find the Russian continent
- build a Transport
- settle on their coast (as they have been trying with me)
- start eliminating their cities
Nonetheless, while I am the largest and most advanced civ, I haven't been able to really get out of the continent b/c of the Russians. The French, on the other hand are around only as filler... unless they are hiding on some secluded continent developing like mad and going to come back at me with nukes before I finish off the pesky Russians!? Time, and 50 more turns, will tell.
