Well, the AI continues to outstrip me on everything no matter how much I try to build, grow, and research. I managed to beat them to the Great Library and obtain four techs before it was canceled.

However, this game was particularly tough in that I was continuously attacked by Barbarians. They ripped into my Irrigation resources which forced me to build again! :(

So far out of 5 civs, I am fourth... b/c one of them was eliminated! :faint:

Keep going Sir. I belive you can do it. I myself started to play this game on easiest level. I play English and I'm always at the top or close at ratings. :)

PS. Hello everyone this is my first post on this forum. :)

Edit:
From what I can see the year is 1600 AD and you have only 240k citizens? By then you should have at least 4 to 5 milion! Last time I finished game before year 1850 with over ten milion! You need to post some units on the map so they can stike on the barbarians quickly enough, so they won't destroy your Irrigation. Build some ships and scout the immidiate area around your continent/isle. You might find a nice and quiet spot just perfect for your new offshore colony. :)

Those are nice tips, thanks.

5 million??? How does one expand that fast? I guess I am still a total newb.

I finished a Chieftain game with 13+ million in year 2083. I thought that was awesome so I started trying Warlord. Well, since you point out that my population is so low, I guess I still don't understand this game... yeesh.

I bought the book "Rome on 640K" so I should be able to make some progress now.

Again, thanks for the tips!

Well what I do to expand fast? I found capital city in 4000 bc. quickly build militia, after milita settlers. I just move several blocks away, so they won't seal each other resources and found another city. I might sometimes build 2nd settlers in capital I prefer to get phalanx or some offensive unit if I have one (better then militia, if no better then I rush with militia). I seek other civilizations in immidiate vicinity. If possible I take over the cities, if not I simply destroy them because this civilization will be replaced by another with same colour but different name (eg. German - > French are same colour).

Then I start to connect my cities with roads and if they have no access to sea/ocean build one or two roads leading to the shores. This makes easy to load and fast deploy my units around my country or simply expand to other lands.

I'm currently in a game where I have three civilizations left (out of seven). Both Babylonians and Russians are formidable enemy, they stole some good high tech's from me, but still I rule the seas (battleships) with two transports and several veteran frigates. I made peace with Baby`s for now so I can gather greater army and take over few Russian cities (I think they have like 7 left on two islands). With so many transports and ruling the seas there is no way anyone can destroy me now. Unless they will develop flight which I doubt.
It's year around 1880 now.

Edit: I can give you my saves from that good game. It's just year 1800 there and I think one civilization left to destroy. You will find it easily. You can check my economy and military units. It wasn't the best game but still many cities over 10+ and over 9 mil citizens and still growing.

...

Well, that's what I do. But what I think you don't do is all the irrigation that I do. If you look at the above image you will see that I have many tiles around my capital all irrigated. Maybe I'll try that next game - I won't irrigate so much.

I'll take a SVE - thanks!

Don't irrigate everything right away. It's complete waste of time in my opinion. You're better off building road which is quick then just found a new city. More cities you get, more money (population) you get and in case of unexpected attack, which happens quite often in Civ you can mobilize your forces really fast. I see you have a nice looking continent, easy to expand with good area for fast growth.
What I would do is start three-four new cities on the east. They will be fairly safe there with one phalanx each and will boost your civilization`s power. It might be a good idea to get a sail or other transport ship and go around your continent just to see how big it is and maybe find some nice island around with 10-20 blocks where you can establish a safe colony. :)

Thanks! :goodjob:

I copied and pasted the entire map so you can see that my civ, using less irrigation, has indeed grown. BUT I am now surrounded by "peace loving" nuclear weapon carrying enemies  ... who only want to move next to me... and eventually destroy me! :hide:

Anyway, thanks for the tip about not doing too much irrigation.

I also think that my previous idea of CxxxxC is too dispersed. An enemy AI can easily move passed my cities and build some of their own on my own continent! I think I will also shrink that down to maybe CxxxC... although that middle tile CxXxC will allow them to move passed me.

The Russians are on the west coast, the French landed on the NE coast, and the Babylonians are doing what I call the "death dance" - their ships - (they have LOADS of them) are "dancing" around my southern shore just waiting for the "GO!" order to invade and wipe me out. How do I know? I had to pay them 450 g in order to stop them from using their nukes!

This game is something... the more I play the more I learn, the more I learn the more I play! :)

You are in a very bad position right now. Look how small you are comparing to entire planet.
Some left overs from Russian civilization. If that's all they have I would leave them in peace for now, they may come handy later. The only thing you need to do is get rid of this poor city Vladivostoc. It will block the growth of your city now far south.
Your small corner is surrounded by two babylonian/zulu destroyers plus a transport. Same goes for French/German. If you want rule the seas this game is over. All of your cities are on the shores, so basically enemies will attack from water using destroyers and then just take over your city with single tank.
I'll post my civ map in a minute so you can see how things look for me right now. :)

Edit: Well I can't post my map right now. I would have to connect all the screenshots together and this will take some time. I'm just left with two-three baby's cities and probably one German. But I didn't find the Germans yet. They are probably developing wheel now and I rule the seas with just three destroyers so I might just leave them for now. :)

If you get barbs you can't beat rush buy a diplomat and bribe them. It is cheap at low difficulty. Or move your defender onto better terrain to buy you time to beat them.
