I have been playing Civ 4 (v 1.61) for ages without a problem. I excitedly go out and purchase Warlords and now I only get about 10 or so turns done and the screen goes black, it occasionally minimises to the desk top, but usually just a black screen.
I sent an email to 2K last week, but am yet to hear a reply, so I was wondering if anyone here would have any advice.
I have a radeon 9200 and have updated the drivers.

Same here i've been playing civ4 from nov05 now i have warlord i can play for some time then i get black cities and blacked out units but after moving round the map a few times or reloading a saved game it goes but sometimes i'm left with black ice caps (north and south)

Oddly i been experiencing that very same problem since yesterday...what makes it odd is i been playing warlords since it came out, and never had this problem. I as well have a Radeon 9200, and drivers are uptodate, as well everything else. Games just goes black and i cant do anything, even have to force restart windows, and sometimes just drops me to the desktop. Any ideas?

This is the reply received from 2K. I haven't had time to try it out yet, but hopefully it will work. Will post a reply when I see how it goes, but thought some others might like to give it a try.
I have just tried this fix, and wouldn't reccomment it. I now can't get the game to load at all, now it tries to start up, but then crashes and causes my pc to re-start completely.

Please fully disable your antivirus software by using msconfig (please see

I did reinstall both games ( vanilla & exp ), and problem persisted, then i went to check on ATI website, and they had a newer driver for the Radeon 9200, the 6.5 version (i had 6.3).

Now i been playing for a couple of hours and game runs smoothly. Since u have same vcard as me Kai, you should make sure you have latest driver, maybe thats all the trouble, as happened to me.
