Apologies if I posted in the wrong forum; thought it was most appropriate here.
I did an install of Vista (32 bit) just to check it out. I thought I would test performance of Warlords on Vista, just to see what the impact (if any) would be.
I currently have a standalone machine with a dual boot of both XP and Vista. I thought about performing 3 tests.
Test 1 -- Comparison of AI speed between the two systems.
Test 2 -- Comparison of 10 turn stability in a large late game map
Test 3 -- Full game (large map, many AI, etc.)
I've currently run just Test 1, and thought I would post results.
============
Test 1 -- Ran 3 simulations of the Barbarian scenario on freshly installed versions of Warlords. Options selected:
1. 14 AI opponents
2. Always war with Agressive AI
3. Pangea map
4. Autosave on
Here are the times to run the 100 turn simulation:
Windows Vista 1 -- 4:50
Windows Vista 2 -- 4:05
Windows Vista 3 -- 4:48
Windows Vista Avg -- 4:34
Windows XP 1 -- 3:38
Windows XP 2 -- 4:38
Windows XP 3 -- 5:02
Windows XP Avg -- 4:26
Difference in average -- 8 seconds over 100 turns.
=============
Observationally, this test would have been more realistic on a 40 turn buildout than a 100 turn buildout. There appeared to be considerable difference in the time required to complete the last 30 turns, noticed both on XP and on Vista. What was interesting was the 5:02 reading on XP only had one contact with another civilization, whilst the 4:50 on Vista had 5 contacts with AI civilizations.
My overall assessment based on running this test is that there is no difference between running under XP and Vista. For note, I have not experienced any performance issues or crashes with Vista to date.

On to the next test...
