Warlords sound problem: loud static outburst

I got the same thing playing as the Ottomans once I got to around the modern era. I was afraid it was going to **** up my hearing, because the volume was set pretty high, and that thing was ten times higher than what's comfortable. I mostly got it when looking around in enemy territory.

Same problem here.

I can't play with the sound on at all, because I usually play at night at the nasty static will wake everybody up. It comes through 10x louder than any of the sfx or music.

Use Edit>Find and type in the text you're looking for.

Make sure you use Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets\XML\Audio\Audio3dscripts.xml

I noticed when I went into my regular civ audio folder the iminvolume was 45. It was only 75 in the warlords folder (well, 75 until I made it 50).

It's definitely not your card or driver --- editing your XML file is the fix.
I really thought I'd blow out my speakers. Not many bugs actually damage your computer.:nuke:

Thanks fixed it. it should save me from jumping out my skin now dangerious when drinking coffee the game should come with a warning on the box "do not drink hot drinks while playing" ;)

I typically play late night, while everyone is sleeping. The first time this happened it woke everyone up  very loud

Thanks for posting a fix, much appreciated :goodjob:

Perfect!!!:D Thanks Crunch for letting us know what the fix was, and thanks to Tattila the Hun for finding the problem. :)

I was going to post and say the problem was with the SAM's. In my current game, I found as soon as the screen came within cooey of a SAM infantry, I would just about leap out of my skin with the noise. Thanks for the fix.

Same problem here.

I've a dumb question.
Where can I find those files ?
I looked in most directories (units, xml, etc) and there
aren't any files visible, also not as hidden files.

It depends on where you installed Civ. If you installed to the default directory, then the path is C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets\XML\Audio\Audio3dscripts.xml

If you didn't install it with the default settings, then you can find the path two ways. The first is to use your Civ shortcut. By going to that, right clicking it, and hitting properties, you'll notice a line called target. The beginning of that line will tell you where your Civilization folder is.

The other way you can do this is to go to Start>Search and run a search for Audio3dScripts.xml

If you can run Civ, you DO have these files somewhere.

@Norseman2

Thanks.
There are 2 of those files.
Guess, one for civ4 vanilla and one for warlords.

There should only be one in the Warlords\Assets\XML\Audio folder. That's the one you want to edit.

thank you so much for posting the fix to that. I had my headphones on one night, and the volume was decently loud. Then the static hit. I removed my headphones so fast that gunslingers from the old west would be proud.
