I know I like to follow along these types of threads, and plenty of you guys probably do too. I will update this often and will probably finish the game by tonight/tomorrow (weekend ftw).
Below is the information regarding the game setup:
Civ: Songhai
Map Style: Continents
Size: Tiny (3 other civs, 8 city states)
Difficultt King
One City Challenge
The reason I picked Songhai is I'm sure they are one of the few civs capable of pulling off a domination victory with just one city. The reason? Every time you capture an enemy city or a barbarian encampment, the amount of money you pillage is tripled. This is very important because money will be hard to come by. I played an earlier game with Songhai normal map size on king domination and by the end of the game I had 13,000 coins, and that was with an army of 5 infantry, 3 tanks and 2 artillery.
Anyhow, lets get on with the gameplay. (Note that the pictures are resized from 1920x1080 for those of you with smaller monitors.)
Staring options
Starting location. Decent enough with a wheat, wine and marble, fish spot in the water. Not the greatest, but it could be worse. Obviously since I can have only one city I really hope there is iron somewhere on my starting location...
After getting settled, I sent my warrior out exploring. I quickly found a culture ruin which let me get a policy, I obviously got the honor policy for the bonus against barbs. The first production was a monument so increase border growth and speed up policies a bit (building a worker first is nonsense, since you have no technology to do upgrades.) Meanwhile I found a barbarian encampment and within 7 turns my UA was paying off (75 gold.)
For my techs, I basically went right down the first branch, Pottery, AH, Mining and I got lucky with a ruin which gave me archery. My basic goal with the tech tree is to slingshot to iron and then to steel so I have the upper hand militarily. I WILL NEED superior units since my armies will be considerably smaller than my foes.
A few turns later I meet my first neighbor, Otto Von Bismarck.
After meeting my first neighbor, I cleared a few more barb encampments and gained a few more technologies, notably bronze working and writing. I produced a worker in the city and started working on the wine and made a farm on the wheat. I don't plan on selling any of the luxury resources since I only have 1 each, but +10 happiness never hurts. My next policy gave me a great general from the honor branch, which was nice addition. Finally, my warrior discovered the German capital of Berlin:
Finally, I produced a granary to speed up city growth and started building some trading posts.
Will be continued shortly.
