Civilisation has different terrain, such as flood plains, hills, etc. There is already a disaster in the form of tropical disease. I would like to see this expanded to make greater use of the terrain types.

So, why not weather patterns with the potential to cause random drout, flooding, or other effects. How about some fault lines for volcanoes, and earthquakes.

Not like SimCity, which I don't like, because theirs are random and without warning. I'm thinking more along the lines of having geography & geophysics affect the game.

There could be improvements that allow you to reduce the effects of incoming natural disasters, creating an enemy of mother nature. Too complex?

I want MEGA-APOCALYPTIC GAME-ENDING RANDOM DISASTERS!!!!

Just kidding. That would be dumb.

Some kind of weather would be okay, as long as they don't go overboard. My personal favorite idea was to have the occassional bad winter damage troops in the northern regions. Like Russian winters.

I agree, although it wouldn't work all that well for the epic civ game as the turns are in years, BUT I downloaded Savavoks Barbarossa scenario and it's great, he put a lot of work into it, one things struck me as funny. One of the biggest factor (General Winter) that stopped the Germans in WWII isn't represented here. I would like to see some weather options for scenario's like this and the Napoleon one too, where the turns are in weeks.

this couldn't be done in normal games since as you've noticed, turns can take anything between 100 years or 2 years and the same weather does not last this long. in a scenario however it would be great to impliment to slow advances and create complete havok

I would love to see weather play more of a role. I'm sitting here waiting for Ivan to hit as I type - It's about 7 or 8 hours away. Martial law is in place, curfew started at 2pm Central time. Weather issues have been addressed in other threads, Natural Disasters namely. How can storms that last only hours be quantified and placed into Civ? I'm all for it, it would present some more Tech advances (meteorology, doppler radar, etc.) that could be used to "lessen" the damage (i.e. preparedness, evacuations, etc), and certainly weather is a big factor in determining the outcome of battles. The time scale is the biggest obstacle to overcome in the creation of a reasonable weather system. Then what effects?

Translation of realism to game of turns is going to take somesort of hit and so it could be done turn by turn in a more general sence of grand weather cylces. like ice age etc. But nuke winter fall out and other such human created stuff could deter nuke heads.
