I've never done that before so I just couldn't know whether it was a Win2000 feature or bug.
Actually I created a wave file on my desktop. When I right clicked on the .wav file, not only would the rightclick menu appear but I also heard the file playing! And it was playing in background. I mean it didn't even open windows media player. I just heard the music playing. Sorcery? bug? Feature???

Did it stop playing when you clicked away the menu? I've never heard of it before, but I assume it would be possible to add something in the register for .wav files that plays them. Like some programs add menus, e.g. Winzip, Norton AV and CuteFTP on my computer.

Check .wav in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in the register if there is some path or classid (copy id and search for it in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\) leading to something called autoplay or like it?:)

It didn't stop playing. Even though I escaped the menu it still played until the end. BUT... I tried this experience: I right clicked on the wav it started playing. Then I escaped (it still played) and right clicked again, it restarted playing again (it stopped then rewind then started again)
