Welcome New Members

I have played Civ since Civ1 first appeared on DOS floppydisk (achieving wins on Emperor level on versions 1 - 3), but have only been successful to Monarch level so far on Civ4. I have enjoyed looking over your strategy sections for some time and have finally decided to take the plunge and join in. I usually play with default conditions, standard map size and favour Continents or Archipelago. As a Brit I usually play as England (sad really!), which has not been an easy option until the advent of Redcoats in Civ4. I am a space-race lover but have just achieved my first EVER Domination vicory with your May Civ4 GOTM scenario. My wife does not share my love of Civ so my playing time is somewhat restricted!

Speaking from the heartland of europe to you is Algar.

in short: german, teacher, not much time, main interest in well done and balanced scenarios (most of all up to now: Greek World as Romans (played it about a dozen times, and WWI by one of the official firaxis-guys which name i can't recall now), and looking forwards to the expansion-pack and WWII SF scenario.

I am kinda feeling pushed to answer to some of the discussions, think i can add a good thought or two to the discussions.

greetings from the worldcup

btw: i played civI to IV, from amiga over 386 to "i don't know what computer that is and i don't really care anymore"

Good Morning Everbody:
I recently purchased 3 ,Civ-IV games. I am networked with my sister and brother in law, and we like to play the games together. We have been playing Age of Mythology, and loved that game.

Civ-IV looks great on the package, but that is about as far as I have gotten, as it will not play on my computer. My sister installed her's, no sweat, as did my brother in law. I spent the best part of Saturday, trying to install mine. I am the only one using a lapttop. I made two phone calls to the help line, and they were very nice, but it still does not work. The second person I talked to ( John, in the U.K.) had an accent that was hard to understand.

John stayed with me a long time, while I tried to install the game, and he finally agreed with me that my disc #2 was bad, and had me use my sister's #2 disc. We did finally get the game loaded but it will not play. John said ( I think ) something about my drivers, and or video card.

Mark, the first person I talked to said to download the 1.61 patch, and I did, but no luck. John said the patch would not help me.

My sister has tried to play her game, but has not gotten very far with it. For some reason she was having a problem becasue the view kept switching from large to small, where everything is too small to see. She has built ships, that she can not find. Also she is playing a game, which has her taking turns, but that was the only game she could get into. She also is confused by all of the options that she has to choose from, and just does not know where to go with this game.

We are all "older" folks, and I am the youngest at age 55. we have been playing these games for many years, but so far this has been our worst experience, so if anyone can help us, it owuld be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi everyone. been playing Civ games for years. I am really happy I have found this forum as people I live with and my girlfriend dont really understand... I also see that a lot of the tips and stuff will really enhance my experience with my newly purchased Civ IV

Hello, everybody, my real name is Regina, I am not American, I am a little old, 57 years old, but my son and I are fans of this wonderful game, since CIV II. I think it's a fantastic idea to create this site that helps not only with the games but also give everybody a chance to make friends all over the world. My husband and I work in Japan, for Honda's factory. And of course, I do love this game a lot!
Thanks, rebakan.

Hi all, im new here, but have been a civ-aholic since civ 2. Ive mastered beating every game of civ 2 on emperor (most deity games), and can win every game of alpha centauri on trancendi, yet im stuck at prince on civ 4 thanks to to the maintenence issue :(

I never really got into civ 3 though, didnt like it as much as 2 and 4.

Hi everyone,

I played Civ III for a short time but for some reason got bored of it quickly. However, I recently picked up Civ IV and I'm lovin' it so far. I love the complex multi-dimensional strategy that's involved with this game...how did I miss that in Civ III? Anyway, I've been reading the strategy forums a lot and have been picking up some tips. I feel like I'm learning new things everyday with this game, which makes it very addicting.

Well, that's about it. Good to meet you guys.

I am new to posting, but have been a lurker for several weeks. I played lots of Civ 2 at Deity and usually won. I didn't care for Civ III and played very little. I am impressed by Civ 4 and am winning and losing on Monarch at present. I have enjoyed the strategy and tactics page and have learned much from it.

Oh, man, I am so stoked I can't even begin to describe it....

I actually bought Civ IV months ago, just a couple weeks after it came out. I was working my way up the difficulty ladder, desperately avoiding Caeser and Montezuma, when BAM! my computer died.

Son of a -- !

Being a poor student, I had to suffer through my last semester of school without being able to afford a new motherboard and hard drive, so I found myself unexpectedly going cold turkey from Civ IV! There went my "just one more turn, then I can go to bed....

On the plus side, my grades improved. ;-)

Now, months later, finally gainfully employed, I've ordered a new computer, including a GeForce 7900GTX, (a big upgrade over my old ATI) and a few other bells and whistles, and as soon as it shows up, the first game getting installed is Sid Meier's Civilation IV, and the first download I get is going to be the 1.61 patch, and I am READY TO ROCK! (And this time for real!)

Now if I can only get placed near some copper on my first epic game...

Started with original Civ pre-1st Gulf War while working in Saudi. The Dos floppies and much mangled box are still in my study. Enjoyed WinCiv. Was addicted to Civ2. I then got worried by the first incarnation of Civ3 and the never ending expansions and patches, but since complete came out I've fallen in love again. Now Civ4 takes me back to the worry... But Warlords is due! My wife is now used to be disappearing for weekends on the PC.
