My last game was kind of interesting, because I finished it two ways. The split came in 1985, when I had conquered everyone but the Indians. My science city, Hoagie, was only mediocre-- the Indians were ahead in science throughout-- and I had gone fundie for the conquest.
At first I thought I'd go Communist to get increased science. However, it took a few years to stabilize (fundamentalism makes me awfully careless about temples and such), and I just never got the steady flow of units needed to take out the Indians in time. It took till 2027 to finish them off.
So, I reloaded the game from 1985, and simply stayed fundie. Trade and espionage was enough to maintain progress in science, and I could wipe up the Indians by 2012 (with an embarrassing surplus of Armor).
It's not quite as satisfying winning by fundamentalism, though. It feels like a cheat mode somehow.
The Indians for some reason spent most of their time attacking one of my cities, Dead Whale. It makes me wonder how the AI chooses its goals. (Its algorithm seems to be "Find the nearest city and keep whomping at it.")
Say, there's a lot more smileys over there now. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/smilies/cwm24.gif" border=0>
