What the title says... I'm sure one of you chaps must have heard something official on that subject. The plan, in the long run, is to enable mods in multiplayer in some fashion, right? Because if not... that would kinda suck. I play Civilization games for the multiplayer, and there's a bunch of obvious things that a bunch of current mods are fixing... I wouldn't want to live without those fixes in multiplayer (the most obvious being the one where building wealth is four times less efficient than just building and deleting a scout--derrr.)
