What Civ should I play next?

I've been trying to play every civ before doubling back (even though some of the Civs I've played as have changed dramatically). I also just did a space race victory (as Rome of all things), so I'd probably want to go for something else. Anyone have a recommendation for which one to check out next. There's quite a few left:

China
Egypt
Germany
Greece
Persia
Russia
Mongolia
Inca
Spain
Denmark

I haven't yet gotten Korea. Plus, I usually like to play against a civ before playing them. Also, what victory condition should I go for (I lean against conquest because it's so easy, but if it fits the Civ, that's fine).

You could try out Spain on a Terra map, where all the civs start on one continent, but there is another big continent. Then tech Astronomy asap. You then can settle the New World and fully exploit Spain´s UA.

Start with a small and tall empire in the old world, as soon as you reach the new world => city spamming with conquistadores

Or play as Polynesia on Terra and immediatly sail to the New World. I did this once, settled first city on turn 39, and ICSd the hell out of that continent, ended with 20 city Deity science victory, never engaging in any war.

Sounds like a fun game too. Have to try it out, once I purchased them.

This sounded very interesting, and in fact I just loaded up a game to try it. Problem is, the settler can not embark. So how exactly did you pull this off?

My wife had a blast with China. She went for a culture victory, but not sure what level. So China or the Mongols will probably be my next go.

Highly recommend Russia for a eye-opener, if you haven't tried them yet. Siberian Riches sounds like crap until you see that it's really free +2-3 Hammers per City, essentially.

they can if you are playing with Polynesia.
uh of course Settlers can embark....

Not the first settler. And Vo01985 says he settled his first city across the sea, I'm just wondering how this is possible. Unless he means his first city after the capital. (Which would be the second city). I'm just looking for clarification. It's also possible that one of the recent patches removed the embark promotion from Polynesias' initial settler.

Settlers can definitely embark from the get go. I just tried it out again and they have the promotion. Not sure what problem you are encountering.

Wow do I feel stupid. I had my numlock off and when he wasn't moving ...
Anyway, sorry, and thanks for the clarification. I will definitely try this now because it does seem like a cool idea . . .

It is a cool idea. I stole it from someone else on this forum. My IRL friend (who doesnt have Polynesia DLC) called me a genius when I told him. I confessed to him too.
It is really fun though! I met maybe 2 or 3 Civs while I was traveling west, and I had like 6 city states on the continent that I befriended over the course of the game. You literally have the entire continent for yourself for the first 150 turns or so, then other people start showing up (I played Deity). You are VERY far behind though, since you basically lose out on the first 35+ turns of the game.

Babylon, the research boost is simply amazing.
Go for a science victory.

I've already done just that, which is why they aren't on the list.

Egypt You wont be unhappy with them hint hint

I was thinking of getting the Wonders DLC and then playing as Egypt. Might be interesting that way.

Last time I tried Spain, I sucked at it. But maybe with the right map, it'll be better. What victory condition, though?

The choice of victory is up to you. Cultural would be a bit problematic due to city spamming in the renaissance. Everything else should be easily doable, i´d just wait and see how things are developing and decide on instinct. It´s, as a matter of course, also depending on the difficulty level you took. On higher levels you are forced to beat the AI down, otherwise they will be too advanced, techwise.

I'll think about that. It would be nice to appreciate Spain.
