I played as the Romans once, and had a lot of success with them. Then again, I probably got lucky with a GL and a FP in newly-conquered-Greece. (then the other 3 civs were stuck below mountains and jungle on the other side of the continent).
Romans work very well if you keep attacking. They are prone to GLs and can afford a large standing army. Legions kick some serious butt when used agressively.
btw: if we choose random, would it make sense to play 0 turn offline (just start the game) and then post the save to review?
this way we could then adopt to the situation.
I vote Random for everything except world size (which should be huge to maximize game time). I think it will be a lot more interesting, and a lot more interaction if the community needs to react to the unknown.
Kind of ironic. The romans in our current game have never really been a force to recon with. Yet IIRC when we voted in the end just before we started this game we had 3 main front runners, Germany, Persia and Rome. Yet this time around no has voted for Rome.
The "OFFLINE TURN0" would only be starting the game and setting the options. Then it will be immidiately saved and brought to forum for review. No actions would be allowed to be taken.
Maybe i should call it "offline turn -1"?
This would help us determine the capitol city location also. If the first city is placed during the chat, only a few citizens will decide on the location, which, IMHO, is a MAJOR decission and should be voted for...
I would propose having the turn-1 saved immediately after we have stopped this game and have the options worked out (we should have an approval poll after this poll-flood for the complete set of options. if multiple possibilities arrise maybe a poll between 2-3 option sets determined by these mass-polls).
Then we should take about 1 week time minimum to discuss the 1st actions and the primary city locations. The first chat should also be short (until first settler is produced), so we can discover and bring the map to forum for discussion of further city places and so on. The speed will go up as we get to know the map.
Maybe we should open a thread on what to do at the beginning of the next game (a kind of rough term1 plan), so we dont suffer from the same disorganized chaos the first few weeks of this game suffered from ;-)
