Well, I love Civ 4 and I had a 1GHZ Duron with 512mb RAM and ATI Radeon 9250. I love epic games on huge maps.

Ran for a few weeks then my processor promptly fried due to the extreme amount of cpu usage civ4 was requiring.

So now I am getting:

AMD Sempron 3100+
1GB DDR400 PC3200 RAM
Same Videocard

I think this will suffice for playing Civ, but I'm wondering what computers you guys use to play this game.

Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop.
2 GHz Centrino
2 GB Ram (bought separately)
128MB ATI Radeon X300

AMD xp 2700+
1 gig DDR pc 3200
Geforce4 Ti4200

Going to upgrade to a 6800 AGP wish I checked if my mobo had a PCI express slot when I bought it a yr ago...... Need a new card that will play Oblivion Morrowind ;) can't wait for that game

Game runs fine except for some slowdown late game and on certain maps like highlands I have had "some" trouble in the past playinging beyond standard size maps.

BTW....it's suprising I will need a new card (I like to get all I can out of them and the TI4200 plays HL2 and any other game I have tried) so soon but oh well.

Mine is the most pathetic you can imagine:

Intel Pentium III 1GHz (it's high ended .....once upon a time)
512Mb old RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 (the newest part on my PC, just because my old one burnt out and this one was on sale)
An old Soundblaster

It runs perfectly smooth on small map, and runs OK till modern age in standard map as long as using low res., and starts to crawl in medieval age playing huge map.

Old Computer:

E-machine Monster 500a, Pentium III, 500mhz,
320mb (256x1, 56x1) 2700 PCI RAM {Unsure of the brand}
Napoli-2 mobo
ATI Radeon 7500 PCI
13gb Hard Drive {Unsure of the brand, Cache, etc.}
Windows XP Pro
E-machine Micro ATX 250W Power.
Small ATX Case - Sleet Grey Color.
Soundblaster 16-2 Series Soundcard.

Semi-Old computer: (Self Built, bought entirelly off of Newegg.com)

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 512k cache S939
1GB(512MBx2) PC3200 Samsung DDR RAM
Asus A8N-VM SATA II with RAID {Pata.Sata Controller}
GeForce 6600GT 128MB PCI-E
Western Digital 160GB 7200RPM SATA-II 8MB
Windows XP Home
Antec 350 Watt ATX power supply
Antec Lifestyle Sonata Case - Jet Black Color.
Integrated 5.1 Soundcard

New Computer:

A-power AP02-Crazy Gamer Series, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core
2GB (1GBx2) Corsair 1GB DDR2 533mhz
Asus A8N32-SLI Delux SATAII with Dual RAID (extSata Controller)
eVGA GeForce 7800GT SLI 256MB PCI-E
Western Digital 740GD 74GB 10,000RPM 8MB
Windows XP Home
450Watt Power Supply ATX12V 24 pin
Large A-power Raidmax Case - Jet Black Color.
Integrated 7.1 Soundcard

Semi-Old computer: (Self Built, bought entirelly off of Newegg.com)

I love Newegg ;)

I built a few from that place

See the sig, plays great, no errors, no lagging movies, only slightly lags late game but nothing too serious. Upgraded from 300W power supply, 512mb and a FX5200 to a 400w power supply.

 - I can see where this thread is going. Its turning into a "ooh look at my beast of a machine" thread rather than a " Civ 4 runs well on this spec or not so good on this spec blah blah blah.... anyway, can't blame you all though ;)

Machine self built (desperatly want to upgrade but the missus seems to think there are more important things to spend money on... women!)

ASUS A7V8X Deluxe
Athlon XP 3200+ (OC'd from 2500+)
1GB DDR400 RAM
128mb Radeon 9800
Seasonic PSU
Win XP sp2

CIV4 ran pretty well out of the box on this setup but even better since 1.52. Looks great and very little slow down at 1280 x 1024 on standard maps at end game, haven't tried any bigger maps as yet.

Packard Bell
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Mobile Intel® Pentium® M-740 (1.73 GHz)
DVD+/-RW/+R9
80 GB
1024 MB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6200 256 MB

And even with these specs. I had to turn my video from quality to prestation or my wondermovies where not smooth.

My P3 1 gig with 512 megs of RAM and a geforce4 does play civ4, just very poorly. Takes about 3 minutes of solid hard drive access to load a saved game. In the first turn the game is vaguely playable, but by the time most of the map has been revealed it slows to an agonizing crawl. I'm in the process of building a new computer (pretty much entirely for civ4) right now.

However I play almost always on the largest map size available.

Athlon 64 3000+ (OC'd to 2.4GHz)
1 GB PC3200 Corsair Value Select Ram
250GB SATA 7200 RPM 8MB Buffer
X800XT PE 256 MB AGP Ati Video Card
NEC DVD Burner
Epox NForce 3 Motherboard

Runs cIV with no problems at all.

2Ghz P4
1Gb RAM
200GB HDD
GeForce 6600GT AGPx8

It plays Civ4 just fine. I can even play Doom3 on Ultra High with no problem! It's holding up well for a 4-year old comp(with a few upgrades of course). Unfortunately the CPU is holding it back a bit.

I'm saving up for a new one late 2006 - early 2007. That is when the big changes come (quad core CPUs, Windows Vista ,directX10 etc.)

2.8 ghz P4
1 gig RAM
128meg ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Game runs great other then wonder movie stutters sometimes but by now I'm skipping the movies anyway. I'm playing my first huge map and near the end of the game, big wars with tons of modern units and my computer does slow down quite a bit. But then it did with Civ 3 as well so I'm not complaining.

Ain't that the truth. That game will suck the life out of me once released. I won't even know what Civ 4 is anymore. ;)

My problem is that my computer doesn't meet the recommneded requirements for Oblivion. :(

P4 1.7 gig
986 MB DDR RAM
80 gig HD (7200rpm)
Radeon 9800 XT (256mb)
Sounds Blaster Live

I used to have a Radeon 7500 All In Wonder but it couldn't hack the game so I went out and bought the 9800XT and that made all the difference. I got the 9800XT from ebay for about 140$ (great buy)

Second that!

Athlon 64 3000
2 gigs ddr400
6600gt
onboard sound( waiting for X-fi price to come down)

I am playing on the origonal build( have not patched) and it plays flawlessly. from reading these forums I think amount of ram is most important.

2.8 Ghz P-IV dual core
1 gig 533 mhz Dual channel DDR2 SDRAM
800 mhz FSB
160 gig 7200 rpm hard drive
256 meg Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX video
SB Audigy2 ZS sound card
