I've noticed that the cost of the palace grows as the palace grows - in number, in terms of buildings contained within it. Does anyone know how many shields exactly are added to the cost when the city grows or you construct another building there?

The same cost as the wonders on that age. So we can prebuild it
Honestly, that was I thought
Great Lib = Palace Shields
SunTzu = Palace Shields
Adam S = Palace Shields (600 ?)
UN = Palace Shields
The number of cities you have, and the OCN also play a role. FortyJ and I both did a city-by-city check once, and there is somewhat a pattern to the madness. (haven't figured out an equation yet), but I think the palace cost starts going up at 1/4 or 1/2 the OCN.
Certainly it is to do with the number of cities you have.
I was playing a game recently where I had a palace pre-build, and cutting it fine with a few turns to go. I was sneak attacked, lost a city and next turn found that the palace had been built
Gotta be careful with that. If you rush the palace with the MGL and then proceed to capture/create new cities, the cost can go up and you'll still won't finish the palace for the next turn.
