The Persians lost the race for the Pyramids in my game, and ended up building the Oracle in their capitol. But several other people saw them get the Pyramids.

I'm interested to see how different strategies affected the wonder race, because I really want my neighbor to have the Pyramids for me to capture in my next game!

Persia had to settle for the Oracle in my game, too. It's mine now, but worthless of course. Luckily they had also Sun Tzu which they finished just before our second war. :)

Nope they didn't build any wonders, I kept them too busy with wars. :) Leaders provide the best source of wonders, at least you get a chance for some control. Built pyramids in Ur.

They managed to build two wonders in Persepolis in my game!

Both The Oracle and The Hanging Gardens were located in Persepolis. Unfortunately I lost nearly all my swordmen near Persepolis in a bloody battle so the Persian capital remained Persian until late in the Industrial age. At that time their wonders were of course no longer very useful to me. :)

Well, you need to get leaders first. :(
I only got one leader so far (550 AD), halfway through the Middle Ages, despite dozens and dozens of elite victories. By then I already had laboriously constructed the Forbidden Palace in Nineveh (during my Golden Age), and there were no great wonders available, so I just made an army of 3 veteran Knights.
Then in the battle for Persepolis it nearly got killed (1 hp left!) by a defending Spearman.

In my game, I don't remember seeing any useful Wonder in Persepolis. With the exception of the Sun Tzu and Leo's Workshop, the Pyramid and most of other useful GWs were in China.:(

They've built NO WONDERS in Persepolis, but they finished the Great Wall in Antioch. (This will make my war a bit more difficult; it's about 500 BC, and the Zulu have attacked Persia :).) The Zulu have built Pyrimids and Colossus, and the Indians have built Oracle and Great Lighthouse. I've not heard much yet about the Japanese or Chinese.

In my game Persia got the Pyramids. I built the Forbidden Palace and Great Library with leaders I obtained through taking the Pyramids away from them.

I had to build the FP the old fashoined way, a brick at a time but was able to move my palace later with a Great Leader. Did the Great Library help much?

Not a lot. Only got Theology and Education from it, but was able to save up about 1000 extra gold for Knight upgrades because of it. Also was able to trade some techs that I might not have otherwise been able to. An army might have been more productive, as I went through a leader dryspell, and really could have used a Knight army against the Zulu. The way things were going in that war though, I probably just would have lost the army anyways.

I'm currently playing as the Persians, and have successfully built quite a number of Great Wonders in the capital city, 5 I think. This includes the Pyramids, Great Library, SETI and the Hoover Dam.

The way I managed that, is simply to build as many cities as possible in the very beginning of the game, with a session of Settler building, and making workers, so that I could get as much Sheilds and commerce made as possible.

Hi MajorFallout and welcome to the CFC forums!

Nice to read you're doing great with your game as the Persians, and it's great you like to share your experiences with other forum users. :)

But I think you have misunderstood the purpose and meaning of this thread and forum. GotM stands for Game of the Month, a feature this site offers to members where all players can compete in the same game. Each month this is a different game and this section of the forum contains all info and discussions about that game. This poll covers the wonders constructed in Persepolis during this month's GotM.

You can use the civ3 stories&tales forum to write about the accomplishments and feats you have reached with your game with the Persians, there are also lots of other examples of great empires other players have created.

You should try the Gotm too, although the current one is a deity level game, so depending on your skill level you might want to wait for the next month's game, which probably will be a regent/monarch game. :)
