Personally I'm gonna start from the bottom, that way I learn about the new features as I play, and then start moving up through the levels. How about you guys?

Definitely the lowest. Is it still called Chieftain.

My first game will be a "tryitalloutgame". I wont play to win, just to learn and watch.

Why does everybody write (10 char) after their short posts? Why not just write 10 character answers?

King or Emperor might be my bet

I will start even below Chieftain, as I understand from Civrules there's a tutorial and I don't feel myself too good or something to skip that. Who knows, maybe it even includes some fun stuff :)

I always find if you start at the lowest level, you get ahead too soon and you're just sitting out the game. No opposition, tech leader and you could win in any condition you want.

Maybe a smallish map with chieftan just to get game tips. Play each level once till you get proper resistance.

im gonna start with the tutorial then go to the 2nd easiest level and then 3rd and probably stay there at 3rd

i think i start with monarch or emperor (medium difficulty) so it isnt too hard at beginning and it wont be too easy at the end... and why does my comp crash every time i do the following- minimize civfanatics, enter c3c, exit c3c and when i try to maximize cfc my comp crashes...its so annoying.

In Civ 2 I played on deity level, so for my first game in Civ 3 I played on emperor. I can tell you I won’t make that mistake again. :suicide: Chieftain, that’s were I will start.

The equivalent of one above the standard setting.

I enjoy adversity far more than simply whaling A.I opponents because the setting grant me major advantages. It will also make me better appreciate what sort of challenge the game is going to represent to me.

I wonder if it will be like in my first game of Civ III where I really noticed that the game had become far more challenging than Civ II - started on Monarch, stuck with hardly any lands and as Russia. Pantage.

Uhhhm what was the level above Sid?

:D

I guess i start somewhere between prince and king/monarch. In the past everything lower was just to boring if you already had some experience in civing.

I'm going to pick whatever option gives no bonuses/penalties to either me or the AI. I will try like this a few times- if it's too hard I'll bring it down a notch.

Whatever is the setting where the A.I and human are equal in terms of A.I cheating. (or as equal as possible).

Regent, or whatever its called now.

I definitely will check out the tutorial first and then play I few games at Chieftain. Once I get the hang of the new features I will start moving up to harder difficulties.

I will play on a medium-hard difficulty level, expecting to lose. I think you will get less enjoyment from the game if you walk all over the AI in your first game. You'll get to learn all the techs and use all the units, etc. right away. It just leads to the game getting older faster. I'd rather challenge myself and open the game up slowly. If I can't win at the difficulty level I start at then the next game I'll try one difficulty lower until I can win. Then I'll go back to tackling the next higher level.
