What do you do when you get a low production Start?

I've gotten plenty of starts where there aren't enough brickyardable or woodcutterable tiles to get production from and I have absolutely no clue where to go from there. Do I try to move my founder to a place with more production? Do I try to settle a town later on that might serve better as my main city? What if i'm completely surrounded by flat terrain?

I try to get the right resources, either from expansion or from trade. It's difficult to get another city as main in Antiquity in many cases. It will always be 20+ turns behind, and a few more hammers will take the whole age to make up for that. But 2-3 production resources can make a difference in my experience.

But I usually switch capitals for exploration then (which I usually do anyway).

Smart, I do feel like it's a bit hard to get good trade routes connected in the early age

I learned from Civ6 to not be afraid to re-roll / re-create my start. I've had a few Civ7 starts where I see lots of tundra -- not enough food to get going. Definite restart for me.

Some starts are just objectively better than others and yeah you can easily just get a poor start into midgame through no fault of your own. That's ok though, because its not like Civ7 is too hard even on deity. Yes, you want to settle as soon as possible, but that's something you should be doing anyway.
