Obviously a tricky one, especially for any European soccer fanboys out there...

Note when asked about "hockey injuries" google finds a mere 2,060,000 entries, as opposed to the 2,690,000 references for "hockey drugs".

"NHL season cancelled" brings in a paltry 111,000 references.

I offers these numbers purely for your enlightenment whilst selecting your option in the poll.

I like the fighting. Lifting my own adrenaline levels. But I don't like to see the bad injuries tho, knees and stuff.

I haven't seen a hockey match in years tho - blame Sid Meier!

:p

I like the fact that they're not playing for a whole season. This really shows how much they like the game and it really puts European soccer ;) players' salary demands into perspective... :crazyeye:

Ice hockey is a nice game. It's fast paced and it looks like football. A good combination. Plus, it's on ice, which adds a touch of heroism.

P.S. What's soccer?

I like the fights and the clean checks. I don't care for injuries, but a good solid hit or an exciting bout, and I'm happier than a pig in dookie.

Also, it's only the NHL that's not playing. There are several smaller leagues that are playing. The OHL (Ontario major junior) has a team called the London Knights that are having a season for the ages. Started with a record unbeaten streak, then continue on a redord setting pace, their players at the top of the league in scoring. The city is hosting the Memorial cup in May after the league playoffs. There's still hockey, but unfortunately I get outvoted for the remote so I have to settle for NHL 2005 on the X-Box...

I was waiting for a poll like this!

On topic, I am undecided... Though it's impressive padding the players are using, would make a medieval knight green with envy. Yeah.. Real tough guys.. Helmets and everything...

;)

Let's see a soccer player step in front of a 100 mph speeding chunk of solidified rubber....

Anyways, I love the fast pace of the game combined with the level of physical play....and trust me, there's few things in sport better than a good fight in hockey...and nothing better than a good goalie fight.

PS There's no steroid use whatsoever in the NHL, regardless of what some attention starved columnist may have written.

Don't be so naive...
It's a competitive game, so there are always people willing to break the rules to get (more) success. It's like that in every (physically active) sport, including football and ice hockey...

I don't even know what a soccer player is. ;)

Me too. It's the play-offs here now, quarter finals almost over and the pace and intensity of the matches are very exciting!

That's what I dislike about hockey. Testosteron stuffed steroid roughlings beating up each other. Childish rubbish. Watch boxing or K1.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright....

Re: drugs in the NHL. ""To suggest that the NHL is immune to problems of performance-enhancing drug abuse borders on the absurd." - Dr. Gary Wadler, consultant to the World Anti-Doping Agency

Re:violence in the NHL. "The league ought to look into whether stimulants or steroids are feeding into the fighting in games. Did they play any role in Todd Bertuzzi's vicious attack recently that sent Colorado's Steve Moore to the hospital with a broken neck, concussion and other injuries? That wasn't the first time Bertuzzi attacked a player."

both from http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/sport/archives/2004/03/22/2003107352

I quite accept, though, as Pasi indicates, that this might be just one columnist (well, the AP) looking to fill some space (I guess because there's no NHL games to cover....)

So... let's pick the next thing off google -

http://proicehockey.about.com/cs/junior/a/lupein_attacks.htm

Player agent Gilles Lupien has made "allegations that roughly half of the players in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League are drug users. "

I guess that even if the Junior League is riddled with drugs, it is possible that they all come clean when they go to the majors...

So... let's go for an academic source:

http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/2004/0904/bents.htm

Lt Col Robert T. Bents, MD, records that "more than half (58%) of the 122 college hockey players who completed the survey reported past or present use of the specific stimulants".

Hmm, not looking quite as clean as we had hoped, eh ?

Rather limited options I'll say. Got to go for middle one, 'cos I haven't saw yet so big drug
scandals in ice hockey. Using drugs isn't at same level as with finish skiing team or USA sprinters.

As for the soccer fans, this isn't sport where fans go crazy and destroys everything on their way

Depends on the brand of hockey. I like international hockey, which is sort of European football on ice. I loathe the NHL,
because it's a bunch of people beating each other to a pulp,
with brief instances of hockey here and there.

Theres a lot more to hockey then those 3 choices.........I bet you just watched Slap Shop, but if you havnt i suggest you dont because it will give more bad iideas a bout hockey.

This poll was in retalitation to a "soccer" poll. We are just having fun at this sport, just like some americns had at "soccer", even though, no such sport exists. If you are talking about football, then you are talking about a sport. Today On Australian "Who want to be a Millionare?", there was question about which major American Sport had it's season cancelled. I just love hearing that, because that should never have happened. This just shows the chasm between money and love of the game.

none of these options. for me it's the speed in hockey that does the trick. i often get bored by football, that rarely happens with hockey (though it does happen from time to time).

I can't see the point in fights anyway, and I'm quite happy that they're not too common here: I want to see hockey, not boxing

as for the canceled season: didn't notice it, our season went according to plan :p
