i miss:

1) researching philosophy and getting that cool message that said something like the age of philosophy is born in [blank]....

2) satellites that bring back photos of the earth

3) the music played when a civ was destroyed and the siund of marching when a city falls

didnt you used to get a bonus if you were the first to sale around the globe, or was that another game?

what else... i miss the cannon guys shouting "fire" before they bombard, and generally most of the sound effects which i dont think are as good in civIII. basically, i think civIII is mechanically a better game, but it doesnt have the polish that made civII one of the greats.

I miss the wonder movies, the cheat mode, the events ability, the sattelites that bring photos of earth, and lots of other things.

Civ3 is still a better game though.

I miss barbs being able to take over a city.

Ah yes, especially on the rare occasion when they overwhelm one of the AI's cities with an ancient Wonder or two... it's always amusing to look at the Top Five Cities list and see "The Barbarian City of Thebes" or whatever...

I miss Fundementalism. I almost always went for Fundamentalism in Civ 2 since all the units were free, and no citizens were ever unhappy! Though science was halved, I still think it was probably the best government.

I checked ALL the boxes. I miss all those features from Civ2, but I think that Civ3 is still really good, and i have learned to enjoy the game without them.

What I miss most of all, though, is the diplomacy system from SMAC.
You checked ALL of them, including the one that says you don't miss any of them? Um...

Well, compared to SMAC and CIVII, the new game has no athmosphere. SMAC was really strong in giving you the feeling that you were stranded and had to learn to live on this new world.

Plus I too miss the movies. SMAC also was superior in government choices imho.
Why didn't they advance SMAC instead of re-inventing the wheel AGAIN???

I also miss the humor of CIVII... (Elvis....)

MOVIES!!!!!!!! and spys.......mmmh it would be really cool if u got a movie of an army crushing acity if u wont by conquest or see ur self being eleceted in the UN...........

Thanks for all of the feedback I was wondering if it was just me that feels some good things were left out from CIV2:)

I should have included the Wonder Videos & the helicopters in this, well no poll is perfect;)

1. Terraforming
2. Cheat Mode
3. Spies

I like Civ III, but I am puzzled about the economic decision of removing perfectly valuable, and marketable features from an excellent product. Perhaps one of the Firaxians can come here and explain. I work in the gaming industry and have worked in software engineering for a few years now. I have enough experience to know that this is typically a bad decision made out of desparation. Was that the case with the cheat mode in Civ III? Were they that rushed by the publisher?
