What do you miss from Civ and other 4X games?

Obviously there are a lot of "polish" elements, comparing a new 4x game to a civ game that has been out for quite a while.

Mechanically I only miss a few things:

1) More extensive trading. I enjoy the trade window and being able to trade lots of goods and the like. I don't mind that Old World's trade is slower, I think that is just hitting the right flavor, but I wish I could trade more stuff and had more options.
2) Automation. I want scout automation from the get go, to me it should just be, once I've done all my orders and hit end turn, any remaining orders goes to the scout. Eventually workers too, while I feel the "order strain" in early game worker vs other things, later game I usually have enough orders to get my workers onto the next thing, so like civ it just becomes a doldrum of "click next spot building next thing", and I wish that was automated.

I recall Dale posted a mod for turn 1 scout automation somewhere on this forum.

Hello Stalker0

Dale did indeed make a mod following my whinging on these forums. :D You can find it here: https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...ke-to-see-for-old-world.672257/#post-16137231

I believe that mod covers both; it will let you automate scouts and workers from the game start.

Kind regards,
Ita Bear

Awesome! Is there one to speed up worker automation as well?

In the Mods section of the game it's called "Automation from the Start".

I play my first game (currently round 110).
Some main settings: Diff: strong, 6 opponents, AI Aggression Normal, Map Size: Huge)

I love ancient era and I enjoy the game however I have a feeling that it lacks some tension (eg. I had one war with one of the opponents but I haven't seen any of their units). Maybe it's because of low number of civilizations and a huge map.
I find some of the mechanics very interesting (especially orders) but still there is some Civ flavour I lack and I think it mght be a valuable direction of game development.

What I would like to see in the future (thoughts from the first game):
more civilizations in one game (especially greek cities - Athens, Sparta as a separate playable nations)
more tribes and ways of interacting with them
more different types of resources
more clear UI, eg in the area of government to make possible actions more visible, more navigable (like in the Crusader Kings III)

Very weirdly, I miss a few QoL from Civ VI, which is criticized for lack of QoL (compensated by mods). Mostly the search feature on the map + the map tack as we cannot queue builder orders.

+1 to missing the search feature on the map!

Hello PiR

You can indeed queue worker orders by using shift as you give an order; you will then be able to give an extra command.

Kind regards,
Ita Bear

Oh, it does, thanks!! :)

However, that's like committing to spend orders + as it takes multiple turns to build something it's not so obvious to plan in advance. I'd rather put notes on the map to remember how I plan things geographically. :)

You know we already got map markers right? Hold ALT and left click on the tile.

:D When the hare therefore arrived in full career at the lower end of the field, the hedgehog's wife met him with the cry, "I am here already!"
The hare was shocked and wondered not a little, he thought no other than that it was the hedgehog himself who was calling to him ...

From Civ series I dont think I miss anything important. OW is simply a better game in every way period.
From EU - different government forms i.e. not just hereditary monarchy.
From Galactic Civilizations - ability to customize your military, in general sense. Imagine being able to choose i.e. between different types of spears, shields, armor, all with their benefits and drawbacks. Imagine the military reforms that probably should cost shields, and be initiated by your leader, take a few turns and after that all regular abstract "spearmen" in your territory turn into Macedonian phalanx. Sorry got carried away.

Also maybe are nicer victory screen, a short movie maybe. Wonder built movies maybe. But it's not essential I take gameplay over eyecandy any day.
