Do you like it or not? Do you think it's foul and crass, or "hip" and poetry-like.

I like some of it. I like lots of different kinds of music though. I don't like very much of the "party/dance club" rap.

I like it, but I don't like a lot of the new stuff. Tupac is the best for me.

I was a big fan almost a decade ago and find everything of what is popular today to be utter crap. There are some contemporary artist I kinda like though but they dont have much commercial success.

Same here (except I like the music from a decade ago, I was too little to listen to music 10 years ago). Talib Kweli and Mos Def are two good contemporary rappers, IMO.

So Rap is crap? I agree today’s guns, money and women type is, but no way is "old SKOOL" rap crap.

In general rap is okay. :)

I prefer NIGHTWISH... go figure what style of music this is... :)

Honestly, I think Hip-Hop is given too much credit today compared to other music.

It could be worse, but only with supernatural help.
Rap sucks so much that it would require a brand new word to hold all the crappy concept necessary.

As Longasc says : Nightwish is better :D

I'm still trying to figure out the difference between rap and "hip-hop." It seems like they just wanted a more white-friendly name.

I prefer the soft and lovely R&B, at least you don't her some girl saying to a dude "You can do it just put your back into it" and he says " I can do it, just put your A$$ into it"

Eh. It bores me more than any other kind of music except "Adult Contemporary". I find that melody is an integral part of my enjoyment of music in any form except ambient noise, and even that usually has some kind of flow to it.

EDIT: Oh, and I definintely prefer Giant Radioactive Monkeys. Absolutely.

Or maybe you like "I got my finger on the trigger, got to hit a figure, from that licker store"

I know that one could use either the term rap or hiphop to describe any of the types of songs that we are talking about, but I personally think that there actually is a difference between rap and hiphop.

Hip-hop is more what you would find at a dance club, and is more likely to be enjoyed by women. It usually contains some reference to shaking ones ass if they are a female. A good example of a song that I would call pure hiphop would be hey ya by Outkast.

Rap is more "hardcore" I suppose you could say. Generally more enjoyed by guys, although it usually doesn't sell as many records as hip-hop does. Guys are more likely to enjoy rap over hip-hop. Rap contains more verses of pure rap then hip-hop would, and usually contains less in the way of a chorus. An example of a rap song might be something by Tupac, or Slob on my Knob by Three Six Mafia.

Those are the definitions I use, at least. Of course some songs are in the middle of these two types.

Yep, cuz you crackas wouldn't understand what hip hop is.

Actually, you got it confused. Rap is club music really. Then hip-hop would be a Talib Kewli or Mos Def, where it's more about the lyrics. 3 6 Mafia is crunk, really. Subgenre of rap, really.
