What does obsolete mean for buildings?

I recently made the jump to prince and I am trying to get a better grasp of certain game concpets that as far as I can tell, aren't explained very clearly anywhere.

I typically use random leaders on a shuffle map, and in the most recent game I started as Brennus with a stone deposit in the first ring of my second city. Since I am playing a charismatic leader with a UB that obsoletes, I am wondering what exactly happens when a building becomes obsolete. I know that I will not be able to build them anymore, but what about the bonuses they provide?

More specifically, I considered making a run at stonehenge for flavor purposes. However, when Stonehenge obsoletes, I know that the monuments disappear, and I will lose my bonus happiness that goes with my charismatic trait. If instead I built monuments in each of my cities, will I keep the happiness bonus when I research astronomy, or will I only keep the culture.

Also, what happens to the Duns that I build? I wanted to try combining the Duns with enough wonders/civics/GG's to pump out lots of guerilla 3 gunpowder units, but I wonder if they will continue to start with guerilla 1 after I tech gunpowder.

I figure if I can still take advantage of the Duns in the gunpowder age, with the stone I may actually build a number of them. In fact, if I can take advantage of them in the gunpowder age I may consider a game as Churchill of the Celts (once I get some more experience on prince) to try to really abuse the promoted gunpowder units as well as the wall overflow trick which I have never tried. :goodjob:

Thanks for the help, and if none is forthcoming, I'll post what I find out by experimenting in this game.

Obloslete buildings ( and wonders ):
-retain culture producing ability
-retain GPP producing ability, if appliable
-continue enabling missionaries production , if appliable ( OFC ;) )
-lose every other ability they had before obsoleting

You can't build the buildings anymore and all effects disappear exception of cultural output.
So your monuments will still make +1 (+2 after 1000 years) culture, but you won't have free guerilla1 anymore after rifling...

Cheers

edit: Rolo beats me to it! :trouble:... nicely he was more precise (forgot the ability to build missionaries) :)

The only units that are eligible for Guerilla promotions are Recon units, Archery and Gunpowder. So the only units You can train with the extra promotion are:
1) Scout, Explorer
2) Archer, Longbowman, Crossbowman
3) Musketman and Grenadier.
If you want to have some modern Guerilla 3 units, you will have to save them from the earlier years and promote.

Or just give rifles, infantry, or mech infantry the guerrilla promotion line instead, all of which are gunpowder:lol:.

Edit: Ah, with the Dun. True. However, upgrading for guerrilla III alone is seldom worth it so I didn't consider it.
