What does smac mean?

Sid Meier's Alpha Centuri.
It took me a little while to figure that one out, too.

Actually, speaking purely "technical" terms SMAC would correctly only imply Sid Meier's Alpha Centuari, and the correct short for the expension would be, silly as it may sound, SMACAC, as it is properly labeled "Sid Meier´s Alpha Centuari : Alien Crossfire".

But then again, there seldom is that much doubt as to which one is asking for that you'd need to elaborate thus.

:king:

Really? I thought they had chosen to name it Alien Cross just because it had the same initials than Alpha Centauri!
SMACAC sounds dumb, and I know no one who says it!:lol:

Didn't ever say it was a good idea calling it that, and I do fully agree that any label other than that one generally do sound better, and yes, I've seen the reference to SMAC/x quite a lot of times before. ;)

When i last checked it was;
SMAC=Sid Meires Alpha Centauri
SMACX=Sim Meiers ALien Xrossfire;)

My argument is lost... Oh woe... ;)

What I implied in it was this, and only this: The "correct" short for the expansion would nevertheless be SMACAC, because the expansion is Sid (S) Meier´s (M) Alpha (A) Centauri (C) : Alien (A) Crossfire (C).

Now for obvious reasons that is not the one used, because it for one sounds silly. SMACx, SMACX, SMAC/x and other shorts are far more common. But since Crossfire nevertheless is not spelled with an *X* it really isn't gramatically correct. There. :goodjob:

Not that this even holds the slightest itty-bit of importance.

It's also often spelled simply SMAX...the X being a cross, thus short for crossfire, the same as in Xmas (christ, cross, same thing, whatever) and such stuff.
