What does the official patch for civ II gives?

I read the "read me" it says all the changes with the patch but it changed nothing!!! the bomber still have one point of def, etc...and I tried to make a new unit (zeppelin) in the extra air unit space they were giving me but the unit is not there...Did I install the patch the right way? I unziped it in the civ2 folder and click on "replace all" is it the right way...how do I create new units? do I have to reinstall the game...Does it have something to do with the french version I am playing on? What does the patch I should DL (what does the Gold version gives if I dont have internet at home( I cannot play MultiplayerS)

I think there are instructions in the README file that tells you that you have to copy the new exe from the zip file over the existing exe file in the civ directory.

I was going to install the patch, but I bought the game a long time after it came out and it seemed that it was already the latest version. (Or it could have been that Fantastic Worlds upgraded the exe).

I dont know what version I am using...A friend gave me the cd...
