Yesterday I discovered that I could change the text for various phrases and messages in Civ III (MacSoft version) by going in the Text folder. What I would really like to change, though, is a batch of text I couldn't find. It's the obnoxious, insulting taunting the foreign nations give you when you retire or lose (and I'd like to change the childish comments when you win, too). I'm talking about the screen that pops up after you choose to retire (after the Oh, come on! box), or when you win or lose, where the other countries surround your leader's bruised face (if you lost) or are lined up under him (if you've won).
That obnoxious mocking was why I put the game back on the shelf years ago, after playing it once. It hasn't gained anything over time. (and no, I don't want to hear that I need to grow a thicker skin or get over it - I don't play games to be made fun of or insulted. I want to know if there's a way for me to change those screens or remove them entirely.)
Where would I find the text of the comments to change them? For the win, it was comments like "I bet you 100 gp you can't do it again", "Next time I won't play with one hand tied behind my back", "There's no dishonor in losing to a worthy opponent... I am ashamed of myself" and so on. I forget exactly what the losing screen said, but hopefully you've won enough to know which set of comments on which screen I'm talking about. Which text file are these in? Or are they in one of the .pcx files (which if they are, is there any way I can get those open, alter them and resave)?
