What happened to communications trade?

For a while now I have had the feeling that I was missing something and today, while playing GOTM 4, it hit me: I am no longer able to trade communications!

It used to be a major source of income in the early game, and an extra incentive for early exploration. Something must have happened to communications trade somewhere between my first civ III games and Conquest with the lastest patch. What was it? Is it completely gone? Is discovering the laser now a requirement? Can someone enlighten me?

You need Printing Press to trade communications.

Both communication trading and map trading were moved up on the tech tree in Conquests.

Funny that I had not noticed the absence of the possibility of trading maps before, but it's good to know it has also moved up the tree.
