What happened with Civplayers group?

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/civplayers , everything looking normal.

Edit:
For any Steam Support staff, my account was not hacked today, I just have a fan that likes to use steams Display names function to imposter me, knowing that most people do not know how to check steam ID's, I do really wish that Steam would not allow Display names to duplicated other players account names....

That might explain it.

mmhh...i do not think the group owner can do anything with the members.
Besides kicking them out of the group.
I am sure Steam is save enough that no one can add strange stuff to the group display, etc.
I would not be worried about that :).

Someone in this thread is likely our vulger announcement maker for the day. ;) Ill leave to discretion who i'm referring too. I spent a good bit of time deleting his post hopefully before it bothered any families or children. We at CivPlayers take offense at this sort of language.

Nothing was hacked, we simply had a open announcement page for games etc. That will now be somewhat restricted to certain trusted players. We also apologize for anyone who had to see these messages today. There was a delay being that Canuck was away from his computer and I couldn't seem to find the right links to ban announcements. Not sure if my Admin abilities allow that or not.

But on the bright side there was nearly 40people in chat after that and quite a few I believe we will see again soon. So come on over and chat with us about the game, play one with us, whatever you like.

Well for one, why are you asking about CivPlayers Steam group here instead of on the CivPlayers forums? :-/ You would see I already made an announcement about what happened yesterday, and what I have done to solve it.

No the CP steam group was not hacked, I don't think that would be an easy thing to do. I simply had set the group settings to allow all members to make announcements so that players can announce their games and atttract players that might not be in the chat lobby, but have the Steam App running.

Unfortunately this can be abused as you saw yesterday. And it was not me that was doing that, the "(Civplayers)CanuckSoldier" was our Russian hacker friend again getting bored. And like The J has pointed out, from my profile status, Steam unfortunately allows players to use what ever display name they want, including the account names of any other player.

And most players don't know enough about Steam to look at the Steam ID that never changes, and a couple players reported my account to Steam as hacked even though it never was, that is why I left the message for Valve employees to read.

And the hacker can't attack the NQ group because it is a private group and he simply can not join it with out being invited. I had to temporarily make the CP group private just to kick the hacker out since steam refuses to allow admins to kick players from the group if it is open.

You are probably right, I can't see IP's in this forum as I'm not a Mod here, but I'm willing to bet he is from Moscow :P

Any chance of getting his steam ID?

Yes I already know his steam accounts, I can complain/report him to Steam/Valve, but that usually has little effect until they get massive complaints to put them on their Radar...

I meant, can I get his steam ID to ensure he cant get into NQ :P

I think the only place for this guy is jail!
This is not first time he hits CivPlayers.
As i read in civplayers forums, he hacked whole community few times and posted thousands of passwords in public.
My worries only about can he do same with steam civplayers community.
Im not want my steam password posted in public or used by hacker.
Nothing bad about you and your site CS, but it is target for that bastard.
People should be noticed about that, and improve their security to continue being part of your community.

As against civ league as I am :) , I do not like to hear that you are having trouble with this. Nor did I like the 50,000 pop ups that occurred because of this person yesterday. Plus it sounded as some of them were admissions of child rape. I mean I know he was just being a dick and there is no real victim, but sounded like a guilty plea to me!

Again sorry to hear about the issues!
