What I love about this game!

Some great posts, I agree with all of the above.

I have made it to the 20th centuary in my first game. The warfare is going to be way harder (which is a good thing) than I or II. The artilery and air units are way cooler and much more realistic. You can reposition your boomers to any city, no matter the distance (I moved one to a city on the other side of the world, large map)

Also a note about resources. These tottaly make the game better. Right now I have no Rubber or alluminun on my continent. SO I have set up a colony for rubber, but all of the alluminun is in someone elses territory. The other Civs are not advanced enought to see it so I cant trade for it. SO I have decided to invade a smaller civ for the resource. This is so realistic.

Anyways great to see a positive thred about the game, I love it! And all the people complaining about MP......it should have been no big shock, they told us there would be no MP right away.

This game is ruining my life again!!! and I like it ;)

Yes... warfare in the 20th is much harder.... I tried an amphibious assault with marines... I didn't hold the city for long( and that was at cheiftain). Lesson: Just like other major conflicts in the 20th... the aggressor must gear up for war completely... No quick snatch and grabs... I learned the hard way last night. Although it is cool to see b-17's and Spitfires lay down a bombing run... :)

Hey great thread. I hope someone from Firaxis sees this in the midst of all the negativity on this board. That fact is, if you like the game, your playing most of the time, not posting, so they don't see all the positive stuff.

One thing I would add is the cool way wars start now. I played to a culture victory last night. After watching the movie, I decided to see what a 20th century war might look like. I stormed across the french border with my panzers(the french just seemed like a natural enemy to do that with). The first thing that happened was the Persians and Babylonians joined the war against me. I paniced and quickly hit the diplomacy screen with Russians and the English, buying their assistance in the coming war. They went for it and their alliances kicked in as well. The Americans and Chinesse joined the fight on our side, creating a five to three advantage against the French/Babylonian/Persian alliance. Of course then it got complicated.

The Aztecs had apparently had cooling relations with either the Americans or the Chinesse, because they joined up with the other side and poured across my southern border, attacking some of my major cities and flanking my attack on the French. (word to the wise, don't leave cities with light defense now, they counter attack with strength). That Aztec attack triggered their alliances with the Indians, Iroque (sp), and the Japanese.

Ugh! And that was just the first two turns of the war. After that, the Americans switched sides as did the Indians. The Frech got pounded off the continent, and the Aztecs have caused a major refugee crisis in the southern part of my empire (run workers, run!)

Thanks Firaxis, you did good.

I was a bit suprised by all the negativity until I realized it's mostly due to Civ1/2 vets griping

a) about how the changes have "ruined" their age-old strategies (oh well, back to the drawing board with you)

b) that it's too much like Civ2 (as if this is a bad thing...)

Be that as it may, I'm addicted all over again and loving every minute of it. :)

Hey, this game is so good I hardly slept all week. I'm really sorry that it isn't what many people on the forums looked for, but I'm totally satisfied.

Haven't slept over a week? This game is a life ruiner. It just tanked my productivity this week, and it looks like the weekend is also in for a thrashing. I've been running on five hours of sleep a night. Uggh.

Must. . . play . . .just one . . . more. . . turn (passes out on keyboard)

No kidding. It's like their ego is all tied in with their ability to whip AI butt on Deity in CivII, and they wanted to immediately be able to do the same thing in III. God forbid anyone have to learn how to be good at a game. These same people complain about the toughness of the AI and the lack of multiplayer in the same breath. Well, wouldn't you think that the tough AI would partially make up for the lack of multiplayer?

b) that it's too much like Civ2 (as if this is a bad thing...)

And it's not, so that complaint is patently ridiculous. The sooner they realize that, the sooner they might be able to start enjoying the game (and the sooner they'll have to change their tune and look like idiots all over again...might as well get it over with quickly, guys).

I fear change.

You get negativity on pretty much every game forum. There is no way to make everyone happy. If there were, you'd have the perfect game. I say let those who want to complain, complain. And rightfully so let those who want to praise, praise.

what I love about Civ 3 is that..I ALMOST HAVE IT!! Tuesday or Wednesday..it'll be mine..all mine.. hahahahaha!!!![party]

I really like the new palace too. And I really like the space race movie. Are there movies or other carrots for the other victories? A diplomatic, UN movie? or a Cultural movie, that would be neat.

:)

GREAT THREAD!!! I have had CIV3 since last Wed. and have barely been able to do anything else. I thought the game was excellent. Much different than CIV 1&2 but MUCH better once you get used to it. I decided to check out the the forum and see if other people loved it as much as I do and was shocked to see how many people were whining because it is DIFFERENT than CIV 2!!

I'm really glad I found this thread with people who understand the value in CIV3 not being CIV2 with better graphics! Thanks for your posts, they helped brighten my mood after all those negative ones!! Now back to my battle with the damn Romans!!

:goodjob:

Oh yeah. The knew palace is very cool. I'm always looking forward to getting it remodeled!

Thank God for the people in this thread! I was beggining to wonder whether I should even get the game at all judging by all the complainers. I can't beleive people are complaining that it's not like Civ2. That's exactly what everyone feared, that it would just be another Civ2. BTW does anyone know the UK price?
