What I miss about Civ 1

I miss the F10 world map from Civ1.

Will Civ4 have a decent world map? That globe thingy we first saw in the E3 video, maybe? That would be so cool. ;)

I think the globe is just what you get when you zoom out all the way. And yes, it is neat.

Just fired up Civ 1 to check for the French tune, but I can't get the music to work :-(

Aside from your army marching in a captured city I really really really liked the intro of the game and the intro music!! That intro is the classic Civ tune for me. Good thing they used it on the official CivIV site.
Oh YES !
The intro of Civ1 is just one of the most awesome thing of all the video game history.
Give a real feeling of EPIC.

I did it earlier (which made me remember how great the intro was, just I said above ^^), and I confirm it's something that is at least a carbon copy of the Marseillaise.

I have a pretty good memory for the music in Civ I, and am absolutely certain Auld Lang Syne was not the theme song for the French. It was a variation of La Marsellaise. The best theme songs in Civ I were the Russians (variation of the Volga Boatmen) and the Americans (Mixture of Yankee Doodle and Battle Hymn of the Republic).

I am also pretty sure Auld Lang Syne wasn't in Colonization, I think that was just original music.

The music from Civ I was great, and definitely gave a unique flair to the civs that just wasn't there in Civ II. Civ III brought back the animated leaders, but the music was uninspired. I'm glad they're returning to their roots and bringing back the best things from Civ I. Now if we could just get them to add the military parades in conquered towns!

-not needing coal or iron to build railroads
-capturing barbarian leaders for 100 gold
-editing the text files for diplomacy and intro movie
-the air raid alarm right before you nuked someone

ah, the memories
