What is compatible w/Civ 3 Gold?

I'm thinking of getting either Civ 3 Complete or Civ 3 Conquests for Christmas. I already have Civ 3 Gold installed. Can I just install Conquests over Civ 3 Gold? Or should I uninstall Gold, & install Complete?
Is installing Conquests easy w/Gold?

IIRC, Civ III Gold doesn't play well with Conquests. I remember lots of folks running into issues.

Complete isn't all that expensive, anymore. I would just buy that, uninstall Gold, and install Complete.
