I'm predicting that most civ5 players will have some college....
Kinda hard to finish college when playing civ all day!

Where is the poll? I think it would be fun to see if people playing strategy games actually are college people. Eventhough there is a big selection bias within these forums.

The only downside is that not everyone here is familiar with US education system. I've done 5 years of Uni, I think that makes me a Master's degree right?

I know that for example Doctorate in France is completly different than the US counterpart.

You'd be close to a masters but not quite there. Doing it in 5 years would be really tough though. You'd have to take extra credits every semester to make it in 5.

Most of Europe has now aligned with the Bachelor-Master system now (called the Bologna Process). If you studied before 2005 in France you would have indeed been in the older system. In the old French system, a DEUG/BTS/DUT is highshcool, a License or Diplome de Grandes Ecoles is Bachelor (unless a Diplome de Grade de Master, then its a Master), Maitrise is also considered a Bachelor although there is still contention on that one, a DESS/DEA is Master and Doctorat or Grade de Docteur is the same as the PhD in the US system.

I work in international higher education, so I deal with this all the time.

Some college, will graduate in 2016.

No. This poll will only mean that most people who frequent CivV General Discussion have some college education. This poll cannot be used, in any way, as a sample of Civilization V players in general.

As for being hard to do college stuff with Civilization under the wings, yes. I've logged way too many hours of Caveman2Cosmos this weekend.

Depending on program, 5 years would put you either a little way into post-grad studies, or just wrapping up your Bachelor's. I can't think of any Master's programs off-hand that'd be a single year on top of a 4-year Bachelor's program, although I'm sure someone can correct me.

As to my education, I've got my Bachelor's in Engineering - I don't expect to ever need to take higher than that, haha. Here in Canada the following generalization applies to Engineering: Bachelor's to work, Master's to research, PhD to teach.

You are indeed quite well informed.

I will just note that IIRC DEUG, DUT, DESS & DEA don't exist anymore. It's either licence (3 years) or master (5 years). That is at least how they advertise in universities at least.

For mysefl, I graduate from a Grande Ecole as an engineer (5 years of study). So I'm a Bachelor or a Master? Btw engineering studies are always 5 years of Uni in France.

About doctorate, you HAVE to do 3 years after our Master (5 years) so it takes in total 8 years for a French student to become a doctor. I don't really know about this US counter part of PhD, but from I've read or learnt, it seems a bit different since you can start early and/or finish latter.

I clicked doctorate, but I'm not sure thats the right choice, as am running by the UK system here. I have a double bachelorate (mbbs) that gives me the title of doctor, but its not a doctorate. I also have post-university qualifications in various colleges.

I have no idea where that places me by American definitions.

The questions that keep me up at night:

Does education = intelligence?
What is the average person's education?
How do we compare different educational systems?

I have some college and am about to receive an associates degree in general science. It has taken me for awhile though. I have no idea how I lost touch and it seems that I'm stuck in the pre associated community. Again, this has taken me quite awhile. I've been in the same community college for 2-3+ years now.
