Tried to find the answer in the manual (that sucks) and here on the forum. But what is a hotseat game and what is a pitboss game. How do I start a pitbossgame?
Feels like noob questions but I hope i could get an answer anyway.

Thanks

Hotseat. All human players use your computer and sit in your chair and take turns to do their moves, ok if you want to teach your young children the game, not much good for anything else.
Pitboss. A Pitboss server on a host computer is setup with the game and a timer (usually with about 10 hour to 24 hour time limit). All players log in whenever they wish to play a turn then log out. If you do not play within the time limit, your turn is lost as far as unit movement goes, the hammers and food etc still increment in your city for each turn and workers etc will continue working if they have orders to follow.

In addition to Trev's informative reply I'll say that hotseat is also handy for not - much competitive game style - like myself playing ocasionally civ with my wife. It is a variant to consider if you have no network of any type or stuck with only one pc in one room. Back in the days it was the common multiplayer game type. Super artillery, Warlords, Khan2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 comes to my mind.

Pitbosses are long- time investment. They last for about 1/2 to 1 and 1/2 year depending of the settings. You get to know the people you play with better, even if you don't know them in the real life, you build up reputation, think a lot when making decisions, and a lot of diplomacy is needed to be made.

PBEM was the precursor to Pitboss, but Pitboss has the advantage of getting rid of the reloading cheating that was the worst thing about PBEM games. But it does require that the host have an always on, internet connected computer, and preferable HS internet or the save games will take forever to transfer.
