what is the world seed?

It's the designated number for a randomly-generated map.

There is a utility for extracting the world seed. It's actually on the front page of Civfanatics in this week's new downloads.

Sorta, yeah. But if anyone ever gets through them all, I'd be surprised. Those are anywhere from 8 to ten digit numbers. Given ten digits, that's 99,999,999 different worlds. Assuming just one hour for every game, and playing non-stop, that's something like 11,500 years worth of games there. And that's with no bathroom breaks! :crazyeye:

as I recall, you can use letters too. That makes it even that much more. So yes, there is a finite amount, but for all intents and purposes, it might as well be infinite.

I'm sure it has something to do with checksums and whatnot. Not that someone made and cataloged every map in existance.
