What is wrong with this setup?

Civ4 is giving me all sorts of headaches, with scrambled videos and crashes during gameplay. I am running on:

Athlon64 X2 4400+
GeForce 7800GTX 81.85 drivers
2GB RAM
Win XP x64

This rig should honestly just squash this game and run just fine. Should I uninstall and reinstall? Would that even make a difference? I am at my wits end here.

Don't bother reinstalling anything - I did - it doesn't help.

Big Ev; My system is the same as yours save for the fact that I'm running Win XP home and have an x2 4800+. Game doesn't start.
