What is Your Favorite Unique Unit?

The berserkers are my favorite UU. Mostly because of their cool animation, but they can be quite usefull at invations. Although, i dont find amphibious prom. so very usefull.

BERSERKERS!!!!! They are the awesomest unit for one reason, amphibious city raider grenadiers, enough said/

lots of folks seem to like the numidians...i think they'ld be better for multiplayer, perhaps, but ai seems to like to hole up in their cities and wait for you to come and conquer them one by one...

however, i find the biggest deterrent to building numidians is their cost. they are spendy hammer wise and tech wise. you need both archery and horseriding...two techs i prefer to put off for as long as possible.

I also don't like cavalry that much either...sure they good for picking off strays, scouting, and as speedy reinforcements, but generally i like a more versatile unit.

i'm not saying numidians are a bad unit...at first i tried really hard to implement them in my game, but unfortunately they don't fit my playstyle at all :(

i guess the purpose for this post is to suggest that one persons trash is another's most favorite unit ever. evaluate you're playstyle and pick the civ/units that will bennefit you and your playstyle the most, and it also helps if you think they look cool too (like janissarys)!

ok have fun turkeynecks!

My faavourite Unique Unit in vanilla was the Cossack, it was absolutely amazing, I fell in love with it!

In Warlords, I have to say I like Numidian Cavalry, for reasons specified previously.

Cavalry are not bad; you only need 10xp to get combat 2 and pinch, enough to own even riflemen like no tomorrow. If you have barracks and stables, that's only 3xp away. :D

Now if only they get defensive bonuses in cities, I wouldn't build a single rifleman.

Quechua rule, my first tries on Monarch I simply let the AI settle while I grab shinto and build stonehenge then rush and build more quechua until I know off a civ or 2 (preferably 3).

Otherwise I like Panzers :D

When has Shinto ever been in this game?
Quechnas are fun to use for an early rush, unless your opponents are really far away. Then you just kinda wasted hammers. Panzers are cool but they come late. I think they should also have an extra movement point to better represent the Blizkrieg.

recoats by far
17exp to redcoats if don right plus drill+city gar

Every UU is good if you know how to make it useful
I like many of them, but I think that the better one is the greek phalanx, since he can kill even war elephnts without problems, and I think they can beat knights too, so you don't need pikemans at all. Quechua is also good for early rush and awsome at monarch levels and above, when the AI has archers from the start.
And don't neglect the Navy SEAL. He is the big deal if you havn't finished the game until the modern era.

Except the gallic swordsman. Who is just a regular swordsman with a useless promotion, that you could get free anyway with the civ's UB.

As for my favorite, I'd have to agree with the OP, fast worker rocks. Next to them the Redcoat and Preats are awesome, but as mentioned, they almost feel too good. I think next to the fast worker, my absolute favorite, that doesn't feel like a cheating UU is the Cho-Ku-Knu. Man, collateral damaging crossbowman are simply awesome. I'm a big fan of crossbows anyway, wich most people seem to ignore, and I'll never figure why. Macemen are always swarming me in the late-early stage of the game, and crossbows are the perfect counter, with the collateral damage ability I've cut down AI stacks of doom like butter. Although I suspect this is more a monarch difficutly thing. In multiplayer, probably Que-Chuas are my fav, but that's a vannilla remenant, I have yet to play warlords multi.

With the protective trait, CKN is even more dangerous. With a barrack it starts with Drill 2 and CG1. After a couple of battles it easily gets Drill 3, giving you a nearly obscene 3-6 first strikes. A pack of Drill 3 CKNs with a couple of spears thrown is practically a city bulldozer.

The only problem is, Chinese leaders really suxxx in Warlords. The financial-less Qin is barely useful. The old machinery beeline trick becomes much more difficult to carry out. Mao is probably the one of the top 3 worst leaders, if not the absolute worst.

Cho-Ko-Nus are AMAZING! Especialy with the Protective traits of both Chinese leaders, you get so many first strikes AND a bonus versus melee. It might be good to protect them from mounties with spears or pikes though. Cho-Ko-Nus have actualy become my favorite UU now. And I really like the Chinese starting techs.

as i have said before, try playing as the celts on a highland map then gureilla really comes in handy

the Cho-Ko-Nus are amazing indeed. i also like the incan UU as they come with a promotion and u can put them on auto-scouting without having to fear any animals/barbs. praetorians rock too...but they make the game too easy :p

Quecha, War Chariot, Immortal, Keshik, Num. Cavalry. Early UU's are far more valuable to me than late UU's. Panzers and Seals are damn near worthless since most of my games are decided before they ever appear. Guess they are useful for the mop up phase but that is more about relieving boredom than getting the win.

im still a fan of the immortal
go early go hard, love them with the charismatic / imperialistic

Now Immortals only get +50% to Archery units compared to Chariots. I miss their superb withdraw chance, it is now only 10% (the same as Chariots). I think they need to get a buff now, such as free Flanking promotion or a base +10% withdraw chance (like they did before), although they are good for archery defending n00bs still.

I totally agree with you that CKN is really powerful. Due to the Protective trait from the Chinese leaders, they get Drill I immediately. With choice of civs and barracks, it is very easy to get Drill III and even Drill IV. With 5-8 first strikes, they often kill the enemies with no injuries. Also, they are very useful for defense, as it is very easy to get CG III and IV. Woh! almost no other units can defeat them in cities!!

With CKN, I always win in monarch, and often win in other higher levels

But, the Praets are the most powerful, though somebody things that it is kind of cheating UU. By using Praets, I always kill all the civs very early at monarch (just like barbarians!!!), and dominate the game early at higher levels.
