What kind of Goverment?

I think Nazism being a seperate government from Fascism might be interesting, it would probably offend someone though.

Nazism is Fascism, so how is it different from "it"?

My choice? Islamic Earth Charter!

Nazism is more extreme and it is created by Nazist rascist concepts

dont be weak..go the whole way..if your paying for them..why let them tell you how????

on a seriouse note..if the civics are diverse enough to allow such things..i will jump for joy ...creating your own very diverse government would be super...lets just all hope its not "played safely" in the middle.. like most things in civ

From what I have seen from the civics choices thus far, my first preference will be to create some form of 'Socialist/Environmentalist' Utopia, using a combo of universal sufferage, Centrally planned Economy and Environmentalism-with Freedom of Religion. Then, my next move will be to create a Theocratic Police State, with Slavery and a Free Market Economy :crazyeye: .
Then, once I have explored those two extremes, I am going to explore the possibilities of the modding tools by seeing if I can tease out the Philosophical and Representative elements of Government (e.g. Socialist vs. Capitalist philosophy, and Democracy vs. Dictatorship as Governance styles).

A dystopic, orwellian nightmare!
Actually, living under the Ingsoc government in 1984, there were officially no laws to break-which is odd given that 'breaking the law' in the 1984 world always lead to the maximum penalty. This was, indeed, the nightmare Orwell created for his characters.

An exetremely peaceful government the first time then an extremely war powerful government next.

Peaceful: :jesus:

Government: Hereditary Rule
Legal: Bureaucratic
Labor: Emancipated
Economy: Communism
Religion: Pacifist Buddhism
As Ghandis India

War

Government: Police State
Legal: Bureaucratic
Labor: Slavery

Religion: Organized\Extremist Islam
As Napoleons France

I will rule as the great Hindu God, thanks Wikipedia :) , Brahman, the universal spirit. I am the ultimate, both transcendent and immanent the absolute infinite existence, the sum total of all that ever is, was, or ever shall be. I will free the slaves, hold council with my city govoners, encourage trade, allow greater discovery of religon and knowledge and set my faith-motivated, well disiplined, volunteer army upon who ever opposes me! :mischief:

um, no democratic socialism is a reformist evolutionist kautskyan lie.
i hate the ideas here that communism isnt democratic, but i wont go into it here, thats what the ot forum is for...

as for the kind of govt, well:

Government: universal sufferage
Legal: bureaucracy
Labor: emancipation
Economy: communism
Religion: Organized Religion -none-

I'll probably choose the options that are the best for gameplay. In fact, I'm sure everyone else will do that after the initial free-for-all experimentation period of post-release.

actually, i wont, i play true to my ideals, so always commy!!!!! ok, well the communism represented in civ up till now has always been stalinist, but still, i can live with that....

Communism is strictly a totalitarianalist government in which all power is vested into a single ruling party! There can't be "Democratic" Communism! Its called Socialism. look it up. try www.dictionary.com or wikipedia ;)

Actually, literally speaking, Communism is an economic system rather than a political philosophy. Unfortunately, people from the Soviet/post-Soviet era now immediately associate communism with the political ideology of Marxist-Leninism and Stalinism-which were 'beureaucratic dictatorships' based loosely around the communist economic model. When teased out from political dogma, communism literally refers to the creation of communal-or centrally controlled-property. Namely, their is no personal ownership of goods, the state merely doles out what the individual needs-usually via a form of central planning. The idea behind this communal property system was that 'all people would be equal'. Great in theory, but doesn't allow for human nature-which will always want more than it has already. Thus, it is true that truly communist economies tend to find it hard to retain a democratic structure (but it would not be impossible, merely improbable).
Socialism, OTOH, takes a far less extreme view. It has no problem with personal ownership of property, or even the idea of status and wealth. Its main concern is in ensuring that the gap between the Wealthy and the Working class never grows too large-by ensuring that everyone within society has at least the bare minimum they need to survive-such as food, shelter, health care, education, access to infrastructure and a living wage. Such a system would be far less prone to becoming dictatorial, as it doesn't try to make everyone equal .
Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, notice however that this is a Government thread? He was talking about a democratic totalitarinalist state which is impossible to create because despots arent usually elected in an orderly fasion, they assume power by brute force. If he was talking about a democratic government with a communist economy, he was reffering to socialism

Xia.
