I was just wondering what level the average person plays on or even the not average person really... I play on king but i have the handicap settings set for happiness to be a little higher... what about you?
I tend to play immortal although i have dabbled with deity.
For a tougher experience i tend to add more civs to a map rather than step up to deity unless i am really in the moods for deity.
I play standard King most of the time because I can almost always play a quick game and win. Otherwise, I play emperor mostly for the challenge and when I have the time for longer games.
I play on king and win 65% of the time, usually pretty beat up and not in a very grand way. If I want to just have a fun and slightly challenging game I go prince and win 93% of the time (their are those 1,000,000 man sneak attacks that can still get me on prince.)
I proudly say that I play on prince and do cartwheels and call people when I win because it doesn't happen very often. For those of you that do win on a regular basis I have a mental picture of you sitting at a computer with mounds of notes around you and each turn lasting about an hour and a half trying to research what is best to do with workers, builds, etc.
Of course the reason I have that mental picture is because I feel that is what it would take from me to have a chance to win regularly!
Immortal for serious games, Emperor for fun or to test new strategies, and Diety when I feel like I need a good old-fashioned ass-kicking (hey, turn 140, two other civs are dead, but I'm still alive, and I'm not in last place! Yay for me!).
I play on Prince and can win consistently. Played the recent GOTM on Emperor and got my head handed to me. Could probably move to King but I like the game on Prince. I don't have to sit there with mounds of notes and take an hour and half on each turn but I think that's what it would take for me to win on Emperor.
Pre fall patch I was back and forth between King and Emperor.
Post fall patch I've dropped down to Prince to re-calibrate.
Pre fall patch I would lose on King as well as Prince so it would still provide a challenge.
The only reason I moved up to Emperor is because of the easy wins. Spend the early game building and when its time for war the AI wouldn't offer up much resistance. If the AI didn't get a good start (start locations and diplomacy) it would become a bit too easy at times.
Haven't played enough after the patch to get a feel for what level is right.
Was winning regularly on Warlord, so I recently moved up to Prince. In my last game, I definitely didn't expect to be DOWd by Dido, the Ottomans, and the Huns at the same time But I survived
I also like to point out that play huge size maps. I think the map size has direct effect in the difficulty level. The bigger the map, the more challenging is the game.
