What level will you start at?

Probably Chieftain or Warlord, or if I'm feeling particularly brave (or stupid), I might try Sid just for kicks before going back down.

Chieftan and work my way up!

Maybe you should have added a poll?

ill make sure to keep myself from chieftain since i will get used to how easy it is and start on warlord or monarch

Im a Sid player so ill either go staright in at the deep end or for the first game ill go in at chieftan to get a fel for the game. 50/50 at the moment. Would make more sence to go chieftan first time round.

I'll start on chieftain, for the sole reason of building ALL the wonders and seeing ALL the wonder videos! :D

How would a game against the Civ4 mods sound? :)
It sounds like you are threatening public mortification :p

At the moment, I have only CivNet on my dinky old laptop :cringe:

Wow, CivNet.

I started Civ3 on Monarch. I would expect to do the same with Civ4.

If I get a copy of it (will depend on your first reports, all you happy americans), I will do as I always did: start at the medium level and try to survive the first game.

As the concept is known, you are assumed to only have to get accustomed to the new ratios of units, costs and impacts of improvements and so on - and of the new concepts, of course. Shouldn't be THAT hard, after all.

I wonder about the difficulty levels, though. Will the AI be smarter with less bonuses (or none)? I don't like this, cause if you want a smart opponent who has equal bonuses play multiplayer. I feel powerful when I bait away 100's of spearmen out of a city with a worker and then take the city. I feel powerful when I kill a stack of 50 units with artillery. I won't feel powerful when I beat the hardest difficulty against a "smart" AI with no bonuses.

Ill proberly start somewhere in the middle like monrach or regent because when i got civ 3 it took me ages to go up past cheiftan I just never thought of doing it for some reason so when I did I found it harder>I now can play on deity and win but it took a while. So I think I'll learn the features on a medium level then go onto the harder ones.

I will try whatever they call the fairest (Regent) level to see how I do and to see how the AI plays.

Release the nostalgia :D

I am now tempted to install After Dark to go with it

On my PC (which is hundreds of miles away) there is an archive packed with old software. Sometimes I prefer them to newer releases, for their startup speed and intuitive gui - there's nothing worse than watching me wait for features never used to startup ;)

I reckon i'll start on the easiest level first, get a feel for the game and everything :) I'll stick to just one game on that level though and work my way up! Don't wanna get stuck like I did on civ3!

One game on Chieftain to play around with everything, then immediately on to Regent.

Nice idea :). I will start at warlord, for the same reason HAND said, chieftain is too easy. If I didn't see all wonder movies in 2 or 3 games, then I'll follow this idea and play chieftain just to see the movies :p .
