I just wondered how everyone here in this forum (I assume) still can play a video game that is five years old, the animations doesn't work on new computers, and in other words...we should have tired long ago. And yet, and yet, we still play this great game. Why do we, are my question?

Myself, oh, I don't know. Probably because it's addictive and exciting (just going to conquer Rome before going to bed

Unlimited replayability. There are an unlimited amount of roads your civ can take when you start a game. No matter how many times you play, the games always going to be different.

Nothing more satisfying than gazing upon a completed empire that you yourself built up from scratch.....it's a very satisfying feeling

The game is the closest thing to perfection I know of. I has the perfect balance of military conquest and economic exploitation. It's easy to learn how to play, yet difficult to master. It represents the reality of human civilization in a computer program. And most of all, it's never the same twice.

It has it's flaws, true. But it is the closest thing to perfection.

Civ is the greatest game ever because no matter how many times you play it, you do not have the same thing opponents or map or strategy. Play any of the shooter games, doom, quake, etc., you have the same map to navigate & monsters to kill. Play the rts games, C&C, etc you have the same maps and generally the same events occur. Only Civ do you not know exactly what you are going to do until you play.

Not only is it that the maps and situations are different, but you are presented with so many choices along the way that you can MAKE it interesting and different. People repeatedly play on the world map with civs in thier "Correct" starting positions, but once the game starts, all bets are off. It is suddenly YOUR world instead of history. I think this sense of personal power and ownership is a very powerful attraction.

DEATH awaits you all...with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

Trying to prove you are the best player in the world and MP games are always fun when you have the time. Its the same reason I still plat the original C&C online.

This game might be 5 years old but, with all of the creative people on the net this game is ever changing. I am a big fan of shooters such as Rogue spear and Quake but this game is ever changing. Its not about your hand speed and reflexes its about your mind and just like sex thats 95% of the game LOL

Civ as I see it is the closest thing to a human as a computer game can get. Every game everytime you play is different. I think that this game draws us in because it is different just like everyone of us.

Because I have nothing better to fo, and its fun. And, its cheap, dosen't have to be fed, no walks or potty breaks needed, and there no insurance payments. Good enough?

It's one of those great old games that considers playability more important than graphics. I wish they made them like that now. X-Com is another one I always go back to but Civ 2 is the ultimate for me always different yet always fun.

Continual new challenges.
The ability to try out a new strategy, even radically new, and not be sure it's better or worse than the old one. The OCC demonstrates you don't even need a lot of cities!
Plans gang aft agley.
New map every time, new mix of opponents.
Depth and breadth.
Multiplayer capability.

I used to get bored with civ2 AI every few months and take a break with Master of Orion, chess, or something else, but it's civ2 that I always come back to with new excitement. Since I got on the net and discovered multiplayer a couple years ago, I've never gotten bored with it.
