What makes the late game...

Why would this apply only to late game tech research? Isn't any research, by definition, cutting edge when it is occuring? I can see the later game research MAY be more potentially devastating, but doesn't research at any time have the chance to go wrong?

Are there different things you might put in place that could reduce or minimize that damage? The FDA inhibits the speed at which medicine gets to market, but it also decreases the likelyhood of some really bad meds affecting the greater population as a whole.
the converse would be nice, as in, getting +50% science in all cities at the cost of producing fallout (at about the same rate that forests grow into ancient forests), maybe make it for Ashen Veil.

With a cooler :commerce: economy, perhaps you'd not be worried about luxury techs as much as you would be about save-your-ass techs.

I like this idea.

Ok had another idea, sorta rolling along other peoples ideas as i brainstorm. This one is actually more of an end game alternative. Its a technologicial victory only you get really bad side effects like i described as you tech up. Nerfed up or suped up depending on difficulty. And of course as you persue it all the other civs get pissed and seek to kill you. Even the ones in your same alignment, because your going after things not meant to be known.

The closer you get the more bad stuff happens, the more stuff happens the harder it is to complete. Plus your probably fighting everyone else since they now hate your guts.

So there if you want to persue end game this way theres no telling how it ends. Toss in enough random badness and it just gets damn wacky.

And this one.

And this, too. Might post some more thoughts on them later, a bit busy at the moment.

how about, you can build the armageddon wonders long before future era, and finish them...
but only the discovery of the armageddon tech/andor ragnarok wonder triggers all of the devastation.

there could also be a counter branch where one could research to prevent certain wonders from working-perhaps based on what religion/civ you play.
the order may get a tech/wonder to counter bane divine. if the ashen viel civ beat the order civ to bane divine "and" ragnarok before the order could discover "the divine bridge" to the gods(rainbow anybody?)
only then would the order save it's disciples

ragnarok causes all civs from each religion to be at war with each other or lose any bonus they have from any religion, and be forced to convert to paganism and pacifism(fo realz)(thereby protecting themselves from others for the time being)
the last civs standing with a single religion win the game
the grigori may choose to champion godlessness or any religion that has spread to their cities, or revert to pacifism(already pagan?)

after 80 turns, if 2 or more religious civs still exist then all paganist civs champion godlessness and in another 80 turns the side with the highest civ score wins the game if there still exists 2 or more factions at this point.

if godlessness wins as a faction then any agnostic civ which championed godlessness from the start wins even if they are wiped out, as well as other champions

if one religion wins, with a unified vote from within the religion, they win the game- or fight it out amongst themselves (all of them are at war with any who voted against, who are at war with each other) to decide the ultimate victor

(civs under pacifism after ragnarok cannot make any agressive move and automatically have open borders with all other civs)

(ok that was a bit drastic-but thats also one hellov an endgame!)
seriously, ultimate religious victory should be an option!

cheers to anyone who recognized the rainbow refrence!
