My connection speed stinks, so I have only tried a Master of Orion II. I often play SMAC and HOMM 3 multiplayer, although in hotseat mode.

It all started with Double Dragon on the Game Boy via link cable.
now that was long ago...

Since then as good as anything

But never really a turn based game. The one we tried where HoMM2 (hot seat) and MoO2 (LAN) but both where kinda.. well slow.
